GPS using "Phone as modem" connection even with reg fix

Even though I rarely use Internet Connection Sharing (I use USBModem) I did the suggested registry edit to change it from "Phone as modem" to "Sprint PCS" just in case.

But when I sometimes use the GPS it triggers a data connection and always shows a dialog box with "Phone as modem".

I don't quite understand the "Phone as modem" vs "Sprint PCS" as far as charges go. But if "Phone as modem" will look "tethered" won't the GPS look like a tethered state to Sprint.
