Re: Anyone using NAV4ALL GPS on their TOUCH...

So I couldn't resist and loaded the "official" update and had to try the GPS... Tried Google Map and MS Live, and they both worked just fine. Then I remember seeing Nav4All somewhere and decided to give it a try, hey it's free! Anyway to make an already long story longer, it does work but you have to be aware of a couple of things...

1. It doesn't start up the receiver automatically. I use either GM or MSL to start it up. BTW You have to do it before you start Nav4All.
2. It uses the data connection to download maps and compute the directions. Luckily I have "unlimited" data so no problem.

It actually worked well. It gave me the correct directions home and the prompts were clear and gave me pretty good warning. Interestingly, even though I loaded the US English voice, the settings are metric by default. I didn't realize it until I started driving so I got kilometers and meters all the way home. Also instead of "lanes", it told me how many "roads" I had when I came up to highway divides. Whenever I deviated from the set course, it recomputed a new route in about 10 to 15 seconds.

A major downside is the menu layout is pretty bad. Very layered and not clear (at least to a English speaking US guy). The app itself isn't very fast (I think it's a Java app?). You definitely notice when the app is loading a menu or feature on a Sprint Touch.

It's not fancy but what do you want for free? According to the website it will remain free until they release the 1.x version.

Amaze is on my touch, and I found that the Grafix had a fair amount to be desired..

It's got good audio tho... and is good with directions..
