Trying many ROMs ... Should I switch to stock ROM every time in between?

Hello guys, I finally decided to take the plunge and to screw my Touch
with GPS and other goodies.. However I expect to try at least several different ROMs, like NFSFAN's, ghettofreeryders, etc..

I have very dumb question...
Should I repeat everything starting from the verse # ONE of the Bible:

(: UPDATED- CONSOLIDATED Rev A./GPS TUTORIAL - look here before
asking questions.) )

every time between

flashing different ROMs,

or it is sufficient to
repeat only the verse # 13?

Re: Trying many ROMs ... Should I switch to stock ROM every time in between?

Don't take my word for it, because I'm new to flashing too, however I'm 99% sure that the only time in which you are required to flash a stock/official release is when you're upgrading your radio.

Example:

You want to flash to the "Almost OEM Windows Mobile 6.1" release, you currently have a radio lower than 3.xx. So what you would do is, first you would flash to the Sprint Leaked ROM to get the radio, since the custom ROM does NOT contain the radio. Then you would flash to the Almost OEM.

So basically, I think you only have to flash a stock rom when updating the radio.

Edit: Warning however, if you DO flash a custom ROM for a higher radio without first upgrading your radio, you can, and most likely will brick your phone.

Good luck!

yes, that was the line of my thinking as well..
but how do I know which of the "custom" ROMs contain radio and which do not?

None of them do, to my knowledge, Thats why you have to flash the official roms first that were released or leaked by the carrier.

good! This means step# 13

now, I've already upgraded to the (most recent?) Radio_3.42.30
dos this mean that there are ROMs that can be used with it, and those that cannot?

Yes, thats the most recent one (and the one I'm running atm). Now I'm not sure about this one...it's actually something I've wondered about as well. Because the Sprint Leaked ROM gave a 3.35(or 3.37...forgot) radio, so at least until somebody else can confirm either, I would stay away from all ROMs that use anything except for the Official 6.1 Release from Sprint. Better to be safe than to lose your phone right? xD

Re: Trying many ROMs ... Should I switch to stock ROM every time in between?

Actually - since the ROMS don't mess with the radios - I think you can flash the ROMs from the first round (3.35 radios) on the new one (3.42 radio) without a problem. After I flashed the new "Official" rom, and radio - I didn;t like the rom so I went back to the custom rom I was using for a while and it worked great - actually better than before. So as long as you unlock your phone and have radio 3.35 or higher -you should be fine.

Re: Trying many ROMs ... Should I switch to stock ROM every time in between?

Ok so the "official" 6.1 release included the rom AND the radio. I have done the upgrade, but don't like the extra's. I just want MINIMALISTIC so I guess JD hybrid will do the best for me.

Now if I install this ROM I will still keep my RADIO correct? Or do I have to watch out for something?

Custom ROMs wont affect the radio. So flash JD's and you will be fine. I personally use SBR_L3gions ROM - its super quick and pretty clean.
