sending email issue

I am having a problem sending e mails. I get a messaging error popping up that says "cannot connect to the incoming mail server. Be certain that your login information is correct, then try again to send and receive mail."
In reality, some of the e mails are being sent while others are not. I have checked my e mail settings and them seem ok and called alltel/ aol and they offer no solutions. I am able to receive e mail with this account. If there was a problem with the outgoing server, wouldn't the error read "outgoing mail server" and not "incoming mail server"? I don't get it. Thanks

Just delete the account and reload it. I had the same issue after installing other apps after the account was set up.
