With the new official Sprint ROM that just came out, "Roaming" is no longer an option. Sprint Only or Automatic are the only two there. Some of us live on the fringe of reception areas. At my house if I leave it on Automatic I see the Sprint network, get 1-2 bars of signal but never receive any calls, voicemails, or text messages. Forcing it to roam is only way I can receive any type of functionality at my house. Also would love an option to have a one-click method of switching between automatic and roam. I'd have it added to my HTC Home page if possible since I'd be using it 2-3 times a day. Last edited by 8BitPirate; 07-23-2008 at 02:28 AM. |

Those instructions are beautiful and clear, but I don't know how to get into those folders, or update those files on my phone. Does my phone need to be connected to my PC? Can I update these settings directly from the phone itself? Can someone walk me through this from the Today screen? Could someone please write a .CAB for me? Thanks, Zak |

Re: Force Roam in new Sprint ROM
I downloaded "MobileRegestryEditor" (searched registry editor on google) and did the exact steps mentioned above and it works! rebooted my touch and still there! hanging out like a hair on a biscuit ROAMING ONLY! where i live, and my old FREE ROAMING plan this is a must.
many thanks to the directions as this is the first time i've attempted registry EDITING on a mobile device and the process was made very easy, with COMMON SENSE! *once you see it you'll understand what I mean* I recommend at least taking a look at your registry with one of these programs and maybe click around a min or two. btw, this was done on a sprint touch. much love! ![]() Last edited by cswin72; 07-25-2008 at 12:14 AM. |

Roam Only, working and making calls.
I did the following which I found in this thread: Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting Change AllowRoaming to 0 (not sure if this is needed or not) Under HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\NetworkService Change ItemCount to 3 (instead of 2) Create a new String called ItemName3 with the value of "Roam Only" (without quotes) Create a new DWord called ItemValue3 with a value of 3 Roam Only appeared as an option but I could not place calls. ![]() I recieved the message also referenced in this thread stating that Verizon is unable to authenticate my phone. So I called Sprint Tech Support and requested an HLR reload. Now I can make calls when I am in Roam Only mode ![]() ![]() And now I like MW 6.1 ! |

Re: Force Roam in new Sprint ROM
I just made the registry edits and I have the little roaming triangle and I'm able to make calls. But I no longer get the EV or 1X symbol at the top. How can I tell what my data connection speed is? I did not change my prl yet, still on 60613
thanks for the help. Last edited by cardboardbox; 07-27-2008 at 05:53 PM. |

Re: Force Roam in new Sprint ROM
Problem Fixed with this Cab file. Thank you to DCP for posting it in another thread (i can't remember where).
There is a second cab file included that fixes the voice mail today plugin that DCP also wrote (Bonus!). ![]()

Re: Force Roam in new Sprint ROM
It has been my observation that you should not include...
Change AllowRoaming to 0 (not sure if this is needed or not) If this is a true indicator, then 0 = *off and 1 = *on I was unable to get a data connection while roaming with AllowRoaming = 0, however when I switched it back to 1 everything worked perfectly. If someone were to make a .CAB, they should use the following parameters... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\Netwo rkService - Change ItemCount - DWORD Data = 3 - Create a new String - Name = ItemName3 - String = Roam Only - Create a new DWord - Name = ItemValue3 - DWORD Data = 3 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSett ing - Change ItemCount - DWORD Data = 3 - Create a new String - Name = ItemName3 - String = Roaming - Create a new DWord - Name = ItemValue3 - DWORD Data = 3 As a note, I found that ItemValue3 can have DWORD Data = 2 or 3, and will still force roaming and data roaming. I'm not sure what the difference is, if someone knows, I would love to hear it. Thanks, Zak |
