Plans with the touch
For you guys with the Touch on Verizon, what data plan do you have?
I've been told a few different things by all the reps at the stores and I don't know what is correct. I've been told that it's 30 dollars and 45 dollars for the cheapest data plan. I currently am on America's Choice family plan with my wife, and was told that I can just add on the data plan to that. I've also been told that I have to have Nationwide family plan, then I can add the data plan on. These reps are telling me such different things, I was hoping that some of you could clear up my confusion. Thanks |
Re: Plans with the touch
bump. Someone who has Verizon with this phone, please tell me what plan you have.
|
Re: Plans with the touch
Call verizon tell them you're interested in adding data to your phone.
Let them explain to you what data plan you need, get the price. Tell them you want to think about it and you want to know what the code is so that you can ask for it later. If you keep getting different codes and different prices I guess its just a matter of choosing the cheapest one :D |
Re: Plans with the touch
I'll do that, but in the mean time, how much is your plan? And is it a current plan?
|
Re: Plans with the touch
Well, there's a $30 unlimited without push email, BUT it's only for certain phones NOT for the Vogue. Only MotoQ, um... and the 6800, I think.
Otherwise, $45 a month for Unlimited $20, 5MB limit Pay as you go $0.015/KB |
Re: Plans with the touch
there's a 20 dollar plan that's a 5 mb limit? I've searched the verizon site and asked probably 4 different reps now, and I've never been told about this.
If I were to use the internet only a little, use the weather, and use MMS messaging, how fast would this 5 mb go? I also have a 5 dollar sms and mms messaging plan from a long time ago. If I send/recieve mms, would this count against the 5 mb's of data, or just against my sms/mms plan? |

OK, here is the entire scoop. Anyone else reading check the date to make sure it is accurate. Verizon has data that is unlimited that works out to be around $40/line/mth. They also have a $25 plan that gives you what I thought was 10mb, not 5, or you could pay as you go. If I were you, to play it safe for the first month or two, get the unlimited package to see how much you use it. Much better to buy $15 worth of insurance then to get a $100 overage charge for data. Secondly, I would call customer care, or find a Direct Store (usually a service center) to get the information that you want. **DO NOT use an agent of Verizon. First of all, they aren't able to give you the Verizon discount for the new every two program, they only give you promotional pricing. At a direct store, you get the promotional pricing, plus the additional discount of $50 or $100 depending on which plan you are currently on. Not only that, but they also only do phones, they don't also sell radios, or TV's, etc.. |
Re: Plans with the touch
Thay gave me #2 of the unlimited that would be $90.00 a month for just door #1 ($20.00 a month) :) .... T M Z

Re: Plans with the touch
Great idea on getting the unlimited first, but how hard is it to switch from the unlimited to the 25 dollar plan? Would they hassle me about it, or try to say I can't?
Also, where are these plans on their website? I'd like to read about them if possible. I was so reluctant to get this phone, dreading the 45 dollars a month. Thanks for the info. Again, could I get a link or something for where this information is? Thanks so much. |
Re: Plans with the touch
I was told that In order to get my advanced device discount (100 smackers) I had to sign up for the 45 dollar unlimited plan for the first month. The verizon csr told me that after one month if I didn't use email that I could drop to a 30 dollar plan for unlimited no email -- no biggy here -- I don't push email anyway. SO after my first month i am going to switch down. Oh btw I also have the family plan america's choice with four other phones added on.

Re: Plans with the touch
Sorry, no link. Looked over the site but didn't find anything. To change the data plan is not a big deal at all. Just a 10 minute Customer Care call which is free from your phone. Minimum package deal with unlimited on the data side is $79.99 for 450 anything minutes. It is kind of BS since you can get unlimited for $99 from Sprint, but I guess Verizon thinks that their's doesn't stink. Although it is just like my pic. Trust me, just go to the Service Center nearest you. It will be worth the drive, and wait if yours is as busy as mine always is.

I'd be perfectly fine with a 30 dollar unlimited plan without push mail. Are you positive that there is one. I'm getting so many different plans and pricing. I wish Verizon would list them on their site. |

I'll let you know for sure in 10 days cause the CSR said I could do it when I bought the phone. Any way .... still debating on unlocking the phone too. |
Re: Plans with the touch
I was told by various CSR via phone, online chat and in store that, Verizon is no longer offering the $30 plan with the xv6900.
I was told I have no choice but to get the $45 plan with the phone. Since I am a consultant and do a lot of work with Exchange Server I do not mind this at all. |
Re: Plans with the touch
You don't have to go to the Nationwide plan when you get the Touch. That's only when you get the Glyde or Voyager. It's $44.99 for unl. usage and I think $24.99 for 10 mb. I tried doing the $29.99 plan the other day for someone, but the code wasn't in my computer. If you want to get that plan, I think you have to call customer service to request it.
|
Re: Plans with the touch
So, there is a 44.99 unlimited, a 24.99 max 10mb, and what does the 29.99 plan consist of?
I asked the csr about the 29.99 plan and they said that one didn't exist. They said only the 44.99 plan existed. Not even the 24.99 one. What do I do if the csr's in the actual verizon store don't even acknowledge these plans? How would I be able to get one of them? |
Re: Plans with the touch
Can anyone confirm a current plan that is cheaper than the $44.99 unlimited plan?
|

Bump. Anyone?

Re: Plans with the touch
The $30 plan does not work on the 6900. For a few months I had a SMT5800 that was apart of the new $30 plan so I got it. The second I switch from that phone to my 6900, that data plan was removed from my account and I was back on the $45 one (well $35 for me now thanks to a family member).
|
Re: Plans with the touch
Ok, so the 29.99 plan is out, but is there another option other than the unlimited 45 dollar plan? This 24.99 plan for 10mb max? Does this exist? Why do the csr's not acknowledge it?

For now, I believe there is only the $44.99 plan, not the $30 plan. The difference between the two is basically the higher tier plan is for corporate emails that you need to go thru the business server to get and the other is just basic email usage (aol, yahoo, etc). The reps don't acknowledge the $24.99 plan because it doesn't help their DAPC (commission talk) as much as the $44.99 plan does lol... Also, 10 MB really isn't that much if you plan on dl'ing different programs straight from a website to a phone (like I do most of the time at work!) or even sending a picture/video message (which uses data). Hopefully they'll change it and let us put on the $30 plan. That's what's holding a lot of people up for buying that phone. I know I've sold the most in my store due to the fact that I personally own one, so that's helped me a lot... |
Re: Plans with the touch
Thanks. So, just confirmint, there is a 24.99 plan does exists for the 10mb limit?
You brought up another thing that is now being contradicted. The csr in the store said that if I have a messaging plan, then the data does not come off of my monthly amount from the data plan. Is this wrong? Does it still take away from my monthly data amount as well as my message plan amount? |

Re: Plans with the touch
I found this on Howard Forums...
" 1. You can do Pay-As-You-Go Data. It will charge you $15.36 per MB of data. (1.5 cents per KB). You don't want this plan, you will run your bill up to heaven at that rate. You can do Picture and Video messaging without being charged for the data under this plan, just be careful not to let any programs download or send data on their own. 2. 10 MB of data for $24.99. Chances are you will go over this limit. If you're absolutely certain you will be under 10MB and want to save $20 a month, by all means, go for it. Just don't say the angry guy on the internet phone geek message board didn't warn you. It's $5.12 a MB after the limit. 3. $44.99 gets you "Unlimited Data." This will fit most of your needs. Verizon will cut off your service if you hit 5GB but that is a ridiculous amount, just don't stream video 24/7. This is what you should be getting with your PDA. 4. Block all incoming data. You can't send pictures or videos or do anything data related. This takes a lot of fun out of the device, but it is still more safe than Pay As You Go. This would be my other suggested option if you can't afford the unlimited plan. You need one of those plans, there is no way around it. They can be added to any America's Choice line, familyshare or not. There are also data/voice bundles for SINGLE lines only." Are these plans still relevant? This was posted in April of 2007. If these are relevant still, then it looks like I'll do the unlimited, then see where I stand on how much data I use, then if I'm under 10MB, then I'll knock it down to the 24.99/month plan. Please, someone confirm that these are still the current plans. Thanks |

Re: Plans with the touch
According to multiple reps I have spoken with both on the phone and at the local Verizon store, this is correct. I was also told by a few of them that they believe they "should" be adding the $29 unlimited/no push email option at some point for the 6900, but no one could confirm or give a date. (It, as of yet, has never been offered for this phone, and every rep on the phone says that the "code" isn't available on their computer to attach to this phone)
The guy in the store when I bought it seemed to know what he was talking about, and said he believes it will be within a couple of months, because "That's how long they usually take to add the code" to phones like this. I will say that when I called at the end of my first month to see if it was available yet for my phone, I told the rep on the phone that the guy in the store had told me he thought it might be available this month. He quickly started apologizing and said, "Since there was so much confusion with this, we'll give you another month at the unlimited level complimentary... since there was so much confusion." (He kept repeating that as if a manager was listening and he had to be giving a good reason - whatever, don't care, I'll take it!) So anyway, hopefully the $29 plan will be available soon - I don't use push email, but MUST have unlimited data. I used 116 MBs last month. A lot of that is because I did hack the phone and got the GPS working - very cool, and free - no $10 VZ Nav BS. When the map moves at all, it's a couple hundred k, so you go through MBs REAL quick. Anyway, hope that helps... |
Re: Plans with the touch
Thank you so much Arl16. That was the most clear answer that I've ever gotten on this subject. I didn't know that this phone was expected to go to the 29.99 plan. Hopefully it does. I'll probably be getting this phone within a week or two at the 49.99 unlimited price, and see where I am, and hopefully I can either switch to the 24.99 10mb, or the 29.99 unlimited after a month or two. Thank you so much for all your help on clearing up these issues. I know this is a very common question, but when all the reps in multiple stores give many different answers, some of which are true and others that are so far out there, they should be fired, things need to be clarified.
Oh, I just remembered. I have a messaging plan that gives unlimited IN pic/flix messaging. Does this come out of the data amount? I heard that this was fixed with Verizon recently (a few months ago), and it no longer counts against the amount of data that is used. |

Re: Plans with the touch
I can confirm the info in Post #26 of this thread is still accurate.
When it was released in April, the $29.99 Email and Web for PDA plan (unlimited data, with a CAP mentioned in the fine print just like VZW's other "Unlimited" data plans) only supported 3 phones... The Moto Q9M, VX6800 and SMT5800. Since then, support for the Moto Q has been added, taking it to 4 phones. No other phones have been added, and Verizon will not comment on dates when other phones might be able to make use of this cheaper plan. As for will pix messages take data. When using a PDA/SMartPhone, it costs just like your current VZW cell phone plan. On the Nationwide calling plans (established Nov 2007), data is billed per MB, but there is debate on if MMS message data is billable. It appears that it should NOT cost you data. BUT, the PDA/Smartphone data plans cover your data usage, so... |

So I should assume that my mms messaging will count against the data plan? If so, then my picture messaging alone would get me close to the 10mb limit (if that plan even exists) How likely is it that the touch will end up on the 29.99 plan? Is it something like as a phone gets older, they're going to bump it to that plan? Or is it totally random? Has anyone heard rumors or speculation on if and when this could happen? |
Re: Plans with the touch
I am going to be switching companies, and the new one will give me a MotoQ for free or have me pay the difference between the Q and a Touch (which I want to use). I currently use a corporate plan with a Blackberry. I would like to port my current number. What discounts can my new company ask for to get the price of the phone down close to or same as the Q (online prices are 99 vs 249, and my new company told me 299!!?)?
Obviously want to spend the least amount upfront (if any), data plan will be unlimited with push email. Need advice soon! Thanks. Andy |
Re: Plans with the touch
Thanks for the ThreadJack. The price of the phone depends on contract time and what not. I think the price right now is 309 with a 70 dollar mail in rebate for a 2 year agreement. (that's what it is at my local store)
Now back on topic please... Quote:

Re: Plans with the touch
Excuse me?! The thread is about phone and plan costs, isn't it? How did I jack the thread?
|
Re: Plans with the touch
I apologize. I didn't mean to sound rude or anything. I started this thread looking for specific information, and I don't want it to get side tracked so I can not get the information I was looking for. This thread is about data plans that are offered, and not about the phone price.
By all means, start a new thread with your question. Since it's now buried on the 4th page of an unrelated thread, it may not get the answers that you'd want. Again, my apologies. |
