SMS/new message alert through BT headset?

On every other phone, when there is a new SMS or message, and there is a bluetooth headset paired, the alert will also play through the headset.

Even when the phone itself is on vibrate, many phones will still issue a command through BT which causes the headset to make a sound.

With the Touch, no alert comes through to the headset. So when a new message arrives, no notification is sent through the headset. The headset only makes noise when there is an incoming call.

Is this normal? Can this be changed so that alert is sent through BT? A registry hack perhaps?
