Wait didn't mr. Dog said that if U cannot get a lock on standalone mode, the assist mode will kick in without a required data transfer coz touch got standalone and assisted mode at the same time. So he cannot get a lock with radio off or no cell service, where's the assist mode? I thought it's gonna kick in? maybe u need a data to be transfered on the phone using sprint server. ANd using data on a sprint server requires data plan or be charged per KB. Correct me if I am wrong mr. Dog.

Opps OP said cell service. My bad. But I think it's no different with radio off. They both got no service.

mr. Dog. If the phone is in airplane mode, The radio and GPS are disabled? So Are U saying that if ur radio is off, U cannot get a lock or navigate? I think U don't know what ur talking about.

The assisted mode will kick in IF you have data connection, and this is only if your using web based navigation, as I stated.

A data plan or cellular connection is NOT needed at all with preloaded maps. Assisted servers are not needed when navigating with TOM TOM, GARMIN or the like.

So, NO, you dont need to use the assited server, and therefore dont need data plan or connection.

So tell me mr. dog, If I am on standalone mode and cannot get a sattelite view and cannot get a lock, How can I get assisted mode to kick in?

In airplane mode, Does it disable the radio and the GPS or just the radio.

Yes mr. dog, U don't need a data plan for preloaded maps. Everybody knows that. I want to point out something to U. I think U misinterpreted my post because when I say data plan, The 1st thing that comes in ur mind is internet,browsers videos. Data plan is also used by sprint to communicate with ur phone regarding data. Data plan connects U to sprints data network because voice is a different network that's why U pay separate for that. I'll give U an example of sprints data network. Ur HTC weather when updated connects U to the data network to upload the update. Did u see the internet there? Nope. If U don't have data plan and U update ur weather, U will be charged per KB. See ur user manual.
