Re: Rom Update - Getting Programs Back
I suspect you may have issues by doing that because some of the reg entries in the new rom may be in confict with the settings that you backed up. It may create some stability issues with the rom. You may even be undoing some of the hard work the chef did.
If I had Sprite I would try it just to find out. But then I have all my install cabs, docs and media on my flash and on my computer so if it got fubared it's not a big deal, just an hour of flashing and installing is all that it costs me. Chances are all you have to do is a hard reset and install all your cabs. I highly doubt you could permently kill your phoneby doing that. |

Re: Rom Update - Getting Programs Back
Thanks.
I was hoping to easily get everything back, but it appears a ROM update takes having to reinstall everything. I wouldn't have to enter my contacts again or reload saved things, but it is still quite the pain. Sure would be nice if a ROM could be updated without having to do a hard reset and lose everything. |

Re: Rom Update - Getting Programs Back
gedster314 is right... not a good idea to do a restore from a previous rom on to a new one. Your best bet would to do the following:
1) Backup data (sync folders and PIM info to your computer) 2) look into creating a combined cab/installation script for your core must have tools I want to try #2 above as I'm redone my device so many times and I find I'm reinstalling the same bunch of apps/games after each install. |
