I read some about this elsewhere, it seems the problem is related to 6.1 and there doesn't seem to be a fix at this time. Wish I had some more info for you but I tried skype and had the same problems, after reading the thread I gave up on it.

I tried fring with stock rom, with windows mobile 6.0, and I still had 1 way communication same as in WM6.1. I think carrier are blocking some ports to prevent VOIP. I hope I am wrong.

I have read the problem with fring is that the microphone is set too low for fring to think it is anything but background noise, and so it doesn't transfer it. Don't know for sure, and I don't have the know how to change fring programming or reg files. It would be cool if it worked though.
