Re: Damaged mini USB port

well if that doesn work for your account then you can still swap the device with someone that has insurance and have them take it ro the sprint store to get it fixed... this will definetely work as long as the other person already has insurance...once thats done simply swap it back

Re: Damaged mini USB port

How would one go about 'swapping phones'?

Can't they just look at the ESN and tell it's not their phone they will service? or do they track it by customer name?

Or... are you talking about calling sprint and telling them we're switching... won't they be able to track it?

Re: Damaged mini USB port

you get any crappy phone and have it swapped to your account.

give a friend your touch who already has insurance for a while and have them swap it into their account.

your friend goes with you to a sprint store to have the phone serviced.

after phone is serviced, reverse the above process... of course this will only work if you have a good friend willing to do it for you..

you could do that, or call up sprint with whoever you're swapping phones with and tell them that you want to swap your phones, the rep will ask for your information to make your side of the swap, then he will need to speak to the other person to do the swap on their account... so their phone will now become yours and your phone will become theirs. once the rep finishes swapping devices all your calls will come in to the other person's phone, if you take it to the sprint store they might check the ESN of the device... but it doesn't matter... they wont do anything but they might ask your friend where they got the phone from.. at which point they will say that it might not be covered under normal waranty and it will have to go through the insurance... at which point they can charge you the $50 right there and give you the phone on the spot, or they may have you call asurion, but i either way you CAN get a new phone :P oh and they dont care where the phone comes from, because when your friend swaps the device their insurance transfers to whatever phone they're swapping to.

lol, so my friend could have gotten one of those free camera phones, then swap with me and get a brand new touch, then give it back to me, and all this would cost would be $50?

great... so now i need to find a 'friend' willing to do this, how long does the process take? will they suspect if I go to the sprint store right after the swap?

Re: Damaged mini USB port

the swap itself could take anywhere from a couple of minutes to an hour depending on the wait time and the expertise of the rep who's attending you... i'd recommend calling *2, say "technical support" and then "other PDA's" and that should get you to a rep who's knowledgeable enough to work with you. at the sprint store it could take a long time or a short time depending on how full it is, now i do not know if they will fix the device like they would any other phone (for free), or charge your friend the $50 fee for either (damage not covered under waranty or the fact that the phone isn't covered at all under normal waranty), my guess is the latter. The whole process (from first swap to second swap) will probably take a long time, so be ready... and when you swap your device back, ask them if they can add insurance to your phone... i'm not sure but i think you can add insurance on swapped phones 15 days after a swap... or something like that, doesn't hurt to ask

it wouldn't cost you $50, service is free if the person has insurance.. if they can't fix it they will give you another phone free of charge.. they don't have the tools to fix these phones anyway so you'll likely just get a replacement..

yeah i pay $7/mo too. but thats for TEP which covers pretty much everything.. physical damage, water damage, stolen, lost, repairs, etc.. while the $4/mo insurance only covers repairs/replacements for general wear & tear.
