Bluetooth headset talk button does nothing

I just got a Plantronics P590 stereo headset.

It works great for music, and talking on the phone. Pressing the talk button will answer a call.

But when I'm not in a call, pressing the talk button does nothing. I want it to make a phone call. Pressing it twice redials the last number I called (which I'd like to disable if possible).

I've tried installing MS voice command, which didn't help, and tried Cyberon voice commander, which didn't help either. I've tried just about every hack/registry edit/cab I could find searching here, XDA forums, and google, to no avail.

I'd love to be able to use MS voice command with it...and I'm willing to reflash if needed.

Anyone know why the talk button does nothing, and/or which roms/cabs would make it work for voice control?

I just tested it with my friend's normal, mono headset. The talk button worked find and brought up the voice command program.

So its got to be either something with the headset, or maybe stereo ones work differently?
