You have two options to get the GPS working with the Mogul. The GPS port need to be open by a 3rd party software such as GPS Viewer. The other option which I like is use of the AstroGPSLauncher. Search this forum for download. Good lunck!

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

Problem with all of these darn Mobile Nav programs is the simple fact that all the maps are old. I have been using TomTom since early version 5 and currently been running Inav Iguidance 4.0 for about a year. The map was a little newer and TTS works great especially in a city with multiple close turns this can be handy.

I'm hoping that TomTom 7 can be extracted from the Diamond rom and we can all use that with the current maps. That would be awesome since TomTom isn't planning on releasing a OEM version.

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

I've been playing with this program for a while, and while it has some interesting features, I prefer TomTom for the following reasons:

1) The program does not import my contacts. I don't understand why it doesn't understand my addresses, but both TomTom and iGuidance found everything correctly. This is pretty important, I think.

2) Adding something to the favorites menu is a pain. If I enter a destination, I want to be able to make that a favorite, through some intuitive process. Never had a problem creating a favorite in TomTom or iGuidance. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can tell the only way to add a facorite in iGo8 is to manually use the cursor to select a point on a map and set as favorite. Why can't I do something as simple as click on history and add favorite?

3) Lengthy process to find out what POIs are around you. The map shows lots of POI in the area, but you can't click on them to see that they are. You have to search for POIs around you in order to get a list.

Basically, this is a pretty program, but routine chores become more complex than necessary.

You need to find a skin that has it removed or create your own skin. I found one that has the black color removed but the meters are still there. If you like I will posted it, if users are interested in tying it.

amztwin, maps go in the Storage Card\iGO8\Content\Maps folder. If you have the maps in that location and you still do not see the map with iGO8 running, then you have an older version of the map (2007.07_070813) which did not work for me. Using a newer one works fine.

mardukeme, thank you for your sys.txt file. It has saved me some work. I'm very interested in the skin that you referenced above. Hopefully the black is made transparent so that one can see a greater portion of the map?

edit: markukeme, were you talking about the nopanel skin? If so I found it. Thanks.

Put the zipped skin (do not unzip) in the \iGO8\Content\Skin folder then start iGO8, Settings, Menu and click on Skin option, select the new skin then iGO8 will restart using the new skin.

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

Thanks Hideffer,
I downloaded the skin 3 times before I got a good copy. Works great..........Now for a harder question. When I make a personal POI across a border, I can not see it from my home position. The crurser has to be in that state or province to see the POI. I can see all if I make a route and ask to see all POIs along the route. But I want to see them all the time. Is there a setting I can change??

Thanks

For those having trouble with US maps or TTS

When I first started playing with iGo8, I also could not get maps to show up or TTS to work.

I found that the key to this is all about using the correct versions.

Now we can't post warez links here, but what you're looking for is "iGo 8 Final with EnglishUS TTS for PDA". It can be found in post #5 in the thread "iGO8 v8.0.0.31442 + v8.0.0.35389 (Final) for PDA". This is version v8.0.0.31442 and tts works without having to add anything to it.

As for the maps, after you install the above referenced version of iGo, the same site has a thread named "iGo8 - maps" and the files contained therein are compatible with this version and show up without having to do anything special.

I had been a TomTom user for several years. Having paid for the last several versions, I was frustrated with how outdated the maps were, and their lack of support. Not that I've tried iGo, I am sold! The maps are much newer (although the POIs are still short), and the interface is much nicer. I will definitely be buying a copy once it is released for the US...

Dew.Man I have followed your words of wisdom however I can't seem to install it. It gives me the following error when I hit the autorun in the \Storage Card\2577\ map It asks me :' do you want to install nav n go 8?' I hit yes and then it stated the following:'
Can't copy:\Storage Card\iGO8\application.dat

anybody?

Re: Anyone using iGO 8

Just messed around with iGo8 for a few hours and I'm really impressed. The POI database is really good in this version and it's finding places other GPS units/software I've used have not found! The 3D elevation feature is pretty cool and I'm really surprised at how well this program is running. I was expecting the animation to be somewhat choppy due to our phones having a lack of video drivers, but it was moving very fluidly. It was even this way when I flew around some areas where I knew there would be 3D buildings.

I'm having the same problem. I don't believe the 3D buildings and terrain are working for Canada, at least not in Vancouver, BC. May be when we get an official release of igo 8 for north america will we see something that works for us.

Glad i hear that from you aspalaasn... In order to test if i was a code 18(18 inch from the touch), i downloaded australian maps and dem file and building and installed them just like i did for my canada maps... They were working just like in the video... So either we got wrong dem files that are just a bogus or it just wont work with the current maps(2007).

Any other canadians confirm this?

As far as I know the dem files don't cover all areas. I can see a mild amount of elevation in my area within the USA.

Yup, same here, in Montreal, I don't seem to have any 3d like in the youtube video posted above. No matter though, it would be nice, but this program rocks anyways!

Do you have it in the 3D option that basically places the camera right behind the arrow so it looks as if you are viewing the road on the screen from the same angle you view the road from your car? That seems to be the best way to see any sort of elevation. I was just on the road testing the GPS and spotted a small dip in the road while driving when in this view.

On a side note, iGo really needs to fix the text to speech. It likes to call my street name Doctor instead of Drive lmfao.

Also the GPS signal strength bar on the map/nav screen does not seem to display correctly. It just was always showing full bars for me despite when going into the GPS viewer within the program being told in there that I only had a average signal.

Other than that this program flat out rocks.

You can edit pronunciations with the dictionary files in iGo8/tts_loq/*choose your language*/

The files will be named something like EnglishUs6.9.lex, depending on the voice you are trying to modify. Edit them with a text editor (wordpad, etc.) I think there are some dictionary files already out there if you go looking.

ex:

"Dr" = "Drive"

Edit: On a related note, how well do the high quality voices work for you Vogue users? They cause out of memory errors on my Mogul after a few minutes. The low quality TTS voices work OK, but there is a noticeable difference in audio quality.

I opened up the lex file in wordpad and notepad but all it does is show unrecognizable characters. Can you give more details on how to edit the lex files?

I'm not sure what format the originals are saved in, but here is a sample of a more complete dictionary file. You should be able to open it with Wordpad/MS Word.
