Why don't custom roms update the radio as well?

I don't intend to sound ungrateful or criticize any rom chefs/modders/programmers, I'm only asking this because of my lack of technical knowledge on the issue.

I want GPS and Rev. A badly, but do not feel like waiting till 2013 for Sprint to release an all-in-one update (also getting really tired of reading a rumor about a release and getting let down repeatedly).

I assume there are others like me that have never even flashed a custom rom, let alone flashed multiple roms in a sequence, then installed drivers/dlls, and make other adjustments. It seems like there are a lot of ways that the current method of getting the update can go horribly wrong, due to how complicated it is, for someone without a decent amount of experience doing this sort of thing. Judging by comments I've read, updating radios is pretty risky no matter how skillful you are.

Is an all-in-one solution (similar to what Sprint will theoretically release) even within the realm of possibility for the talented group of modders/programers on this forum? If so, is something like that in the works?

Re: Why don't custom roms update the radio as well?

It's not really that complicated.

There isn't an all-in-one that I know of (Aside form the alltel rom) because you really don't want to flash your radio all the time - it's not the safest thing to do. Since you only have to do it once, the chefs wisely don't see the value in bundling it into each rom release (it adds a lot of overhead). Also, some people like to mix and match roms and radios.

Re: Why don't custom roms update the radio as well?

Agreeed! it is risky! Therefore its not bundled for EVERYONE to just go and flash a new radio every time they switch roms to a new chefs preference. That WOULD cause unrecoverable bricks. This way may be a couple steps longer...well really just 1... but it helps encourage people to read at least a little before doing this. To me one extra step that is once and done is well worth it for safety.

Re: Why don't custom roms update the radio as well?

It is much safer, plus it's a lot easier, in the long run, to mix-and-match combinations of bootloaders, radios, and os. If they were all packaged together every time, you would not be able to things like install the 3.35 radio with the Alltel os, etc (not saying that this is anything you would want to do, but just in case).

It is much simpler to run an unlocker, radio flash, and then os, then try to break out all three elements from the nbh, and then rebuild the package with the ones you want - although that is still easy with the tools available here, just not as

Re: Why don't custom roms update the radio as well?

Cool, makes sense.

Typically, what would I have to do to get my phone working on the Sprint network after a flash. Do I have to reactivate it? Or will it just work as it did before the flash?

Re: Why don't custom roms update the radio as well?

Although an all-in-one solution may still be worth considering for really popular roms. Like the WM6.1 Sprint rom.
