Best push e-mail client for Vogue?

I'm about to upgrade to the Vogue and am making sure that I still have all the old capabilities on my old Moto Q before I upgrade.

Do any of you use SEVEN for push e-mail? (community.seven.com) I'm right now using in on my Moto Q and it works really well pushing 3 Gmail accounts and an IMAP account without draining my battery much.

Any experience as to whether the WM6 HTML e-mail functionality and stability are good on the Vogue with SEVEN?

I tried emoze for a while, but it's junk compared to SEVEN.

it works very well. initially i had a problem where i wasnt getting any notification, but i flashed my rom again (and have flashed it several time since) and its been perfect. usually delivers within 15s or so, always beats my gmail notifier

I really like the push capabilities of FlexMail as well - I think all around it's a great email client.

i've been using it for almost a month now and I will never go back to sprint mobile email. Its fast, easy to use, very flexible and pushes HTML emails, something none of the other programs I have used allow.

It is a great program the only drawback I have seen is if you are not always in an EVDO area you will miss calls while it pings the server every 60 secs or so. Other than that, it works great, have both personal and corporate emails set up on it with no issues

FlexMail looks feature packed but I could never get it to push. :(
Thanks to that I ran to Seven.

Looks like FlexMail would've been worth it, if I set it up right.

The seven mail client is the sprint mobile email just a beta of the newer version. Seven is the company that made sprint mobile email 6.x the seven beta application is the beta of version 7 of the same software.

the seven client is so much different than the sprint version though. im not sure how theres such a disparity in the products, but sprint mobile email sucks and seven beta is awesome

Re: Best push e-mail client for Vogue?

FlexMail is VERY problem prone.

Many users have lost entire mailboxes/accounts due to corruption. Push is very unreliable and runs the battery down in a hurry. The program itself is generally unstable and has caused many device lock-ups/crashes. And FM does not integrate with any of the os counters like the htc home screen or spbsuite.

YMMV

oh well that answers my question, im gonna try it out. my only complaint is whydoes it have to get the last 25 messages? why cant it do the last 5 days. And there is no option to leave messages on the server after deletion

Seven beta will allow you to get mail for the last 5, 7, 14 or 30 days. Plus you can get HTML mail and setup more than one account, etc etc

yep. seven uses imap, so the inbox will look like your inbox and changes are reflected as such. sprint uses pop, which is one of the reasons it sucks

i have my sprint email configured as imap, they support both pop and imap.

push mail is great for instant email notification, but i found myself getting rather low battery performance due to push mail - it doesn't really matter what software you use; battery will suffer about 25%,.

right now i'm okay with outlook and 15 minute interval updates, since battery is more important to me than instant email. this is with activesync of course which sucks battery life for some reason.

where are you guys downloading the beta seven client from?

SomeGuyMMS 04-02-2008 06:40 PM

Re: Best push e-mail client for Vogue?

I use:

1 And 1 - for person email and domain
Seven Beta - Hotmail, Yahoo, and Work Email

Seven works great except since it is in beta, some accounts stop syncing for about 4 hours at a time. 1 and 1 works good to but they require that you have some policy installed on your phone. Which requires that you set a pin every time you do a reset.

I tried mail2web but I couldn't use it, since I have 5 person domains that I need to forward. I would of had to pay a mint to get that to work.

Re: Best push e-mail client for Vogue?

If you want something that is "similar" to push email but easier on the battery check out PushEffect from Qorefunctions. I found it a bit buggy but worked well when it did. If you have unlimited inbound SMS this works well.

You setup your email to send an SMS through an email gateway or similar when you get an email which then in turn triggers PushEffect to do a send/receive on any mail account. My problem with it was that it stopped working after a couple of days. I didn't have time to mess around with it at the moment so I switched to Seven but may look at it again due to the battery loss I'm currently experiencing.

www.qorefunctions.com

edit:
I should mention that you don't actually see the triggering SMS message... it's transparent.

No you won't find any push client that allows that. Actually push means realtime syncing of folders, not just notifying you of a new email.

I liked Mobipush a lot while I was using it. But since I did a hard reset a few days ago, I've noticed that my batter lasts a lot longer without it. But in terms of performance, its great!

Re: Best push e-mail client for Vogue?

Because of all the reviews on this thread, I though I would give Seven a try. This might be an isolated case, but it slowed down my Touch like crazy! Pressing the email or text buttons on my Today screen took double the normal time. And email syncing seemed to be really slow to. I also didn't like how it placed a bunch of junk on my Today page and title bar. Did any of you have the same problems? Back to Mobipush, it seems....

Many clients that use exchange server ala ActiveSync are going to beat the battery down. WLM, Seven, Sprint Email, EMOZE etc wont do it as much as anything burning through ActiveSync.

Why is that?

I've tried FlexMail, PushEffects, Ensimo(sp?), and timed updates, and Exchange/AS has proven to be much more stable/reliable/powerful with less battery drain.

I dont think you can say that Excahnge/AS has been more stable, reliable or more powerful than a flexmail/fastmail solution. With the FM combination I receive emails within seconds as opposed to minutes or hours. All the AS solutions I have used have been less quick and less reliable, and for that matter more $$$ since I pay flexmail only $20/year. How much is activesync push running ya per month?

As far as the power issue, I have rules to sync mail into 7 different folders. My general email and friends folder automaticallly notify me while my possible spam and list emails go into their folders yet don't notify me. The only reason why Exchange push would be better is the abilty to sync calendar and contacts, otherwise flexmail is the best email solution.

As far as battery drain, I notice they all drain about the same. Statistically speaking I think imap idle has less overhead ive read, but whether that means better battery life I couldnt tell subjectively

Sure I can! With my Exchange server, I have yet to not receive an email nearly simultaneously on my phone as in my pc inbox. With FM, I constantly lost connectivity, and on several occasions, FM completely destroyed my entire inbox/account on the server!

YMMV...

Nothing. It's part of Exchange 2k3 SP2 that I'm running on one of my servers.

My today screen shows how many new messages are waiting. I can safely close all applications with any of the task managers without worrying about my email connection being lost. When I change a contact phone number or create an appointment on my phone, they are reflected on any/every computer that I use. Can FM do any of those?

Oh, and PO has never killed an account deleting years worth of messages!

The one thing that FM does have over PO is it's folder handling.

In my experience, FM showed the absolute worst battery drain. Ironically enough, last time I tried FM (about a month or two ago), it ran my battery down about twice as fast as when I had the same three accounts doing scheduled send/receive every 15 minutes!

Once again, YMMV.

Re: Best push e-mail client for Vogue?

I have not battery issues with FlexMail at all. I am using FM 4.0 which uses IMAP idle to check email. I get instant notifications when I get email, even before Outlook. It uses very little power because it does not send or receive data unless it needs to. If you are still using POP3 for some reason... you should really consider changing to the MUCH better IMAP protocol.

Of course, you can tell FM to check your email every 15 minutes if that makes you happy and it does support POP3.

I really like the fact that it acts like a real email client. So for instance if I respond to a message the responded to flag is set on the message so in outlook on the desktop I can see I have already responded.

That's good to hear.

MobiPush is BY FAR the best push solution out there, and they will make a killing when they get the product stable and go commercial...

For those that don't know, you go to their web site, enter your email account info (preferably IMAP as it is server based and keeps changes between client devices), and MobiPush uses AS/Exchange-like technology to push email to your Inbox. The really neat thing, is that I had several different IMAP accounts set up, and I could reply to any of the emails in my Inbox, it would come from the corresponding account.

Now if they only had contacts/calender sync technology...

Heh well if you have your own exchange server, I am sure that that AS push would be close to instantaneous. I tried several (3+) of the major commercial Exchange servers and they sucked for speed and were very unreliable. (and very costly)

Heh my today shows the same with the FM plugin that is available on the beta right now. I do concur that syncing contacts/calendar with multiple devices is the killer reason to use exchange server. In fact if I had my own exchange server, I would definitely be using it instead of imap idle.

As far as PO, no it hasnt killed an account with years worth of messages, but on my 700WX, the database got corrupt somehow, and it decided to send my private emails to my boss because I had sent him an SMS earlier in the day. Hahaha looking back on that that was funny..Locked his phone completely up... I think that was the final straw that led me to look for other solutions.

Well like I said earlier, I would forego this convenience if I had a private exchange server

Ugg that is not very impressive..well my experience hasnt been that bad. Another good feature that you somewhat touched on (in an opposite way) is that its alot of easier with FM to kill it. This is really handy when you want to get some work done and not be constantly barraged with emails.

Mobipush does drain the battery since it uses an activesync connection. Its no worse than the other solutions out there, though. And yes, it has HTML.
