Re: Best push e-mail client for Vogue?

I've found through experience that all of the battery drain and relative phone stability caused by ANY push solution is dependent on how good your reception is on average. I live and work in an area with 0-1 bar reception due to a brand new condo building and working near a military installation. As a result, FlexMail killed my battery in 4 hours, and SEVEN in 5-6 hours. In addition FlexMail was really unstable, and SEVEN sometimes hiccups and has trouble reconnecting unless I reset my phone. Keep in mind, this is with little to no talking and very little browsing.

However, when I went on vacation to visit a few friends in another city, I was constantly with full reception. In that situation, both programs were rock solid, and my battery lasted a full day without any problems and 1-2 bars remaining. And on top of that I was using my phone more for calls, txting, etc.

I wonder if there's any way to code apps so they're more robust in low signal situations, or if that's a limitation of the Windows Mobile OS.

I think a large part of your battery drain was due to the radio itself rather than the email client. When you are in an area with a weak signal, your phone is constantly going in and out looking for towers to connect to.

In coverage fringe areas, I have seen results similar to yours without ANY email client activity.

I'm going to try Mobipush based off the comments in this thread. I tried SEVEN and it worked fine but then ran into issues so I went back to Sprint Mail.

I'll see how Mobipush works out.

Using Seven 7 beta and love it! Still a few small bugs but I have 4 accounts attached. OWA, Google Apps, GMail, and pop3.

I had tried Seven -- it look very promising but I almost never received email that I knew was sent. I switched to MobiPush and am very happy with it.

The Message Center

Had our own exchange server, but could never get Activevesync Over The Air to work.
Moved all of our exchange accounts to The Message Center in December.

It's 10 bucks a month, but they give you the ability to downgrade accounts that don't need activesync and Outlook full accrees to 5/month for Outlook Web Access.
They also give you unlimited aliases and offer pop3 accounts for 3/mo.

Even though we are paying 200/mo now for email, we get 3 gig inboxes, 100% uptime, exceptionally fast email delivery, incredible (Postini) spam filtering, and we did not have to uprede our Server 2003 boxes.

Here's the coolest (and most pertinent to this post) part, Activesync works flawlessly. All calender, contacts, tasks and notes sync real time. Activesync preserves my inbox folder structure (I realize that some of the above options probably do that too, but certainly not all of them).
My battery drain is minimal because Active Sync only kicks on after the phone receives a hidden sms telling it to go get a new message, contact, appointment , task etc...

Last but not least, my phone almost ALWAYS gets the new email before my laptop (which) is always connected to the Exchange Server!

I tried 7, but wasn't getting emails. Switched to mobiPush and it works great.

Seven was giving me problems as well...I now switched to mobipush and it works flawlessly... when you go on their website it can actually let you know if your device is synced properly and lets you know the status of the last time ur phone synced to get email...as stated earlier it is only text no html so to get around that, whenever i get forwards or pictures inbedded in email i just fire up my account through mobile outlook at sync it manually to view...
Also mobipush is going to support html soon as stated in their forums.

I have been using seven now for a few days and love it.

The biggest upside is the ability to turn the push on and off based on the time of day.

I want to push my gmail imap account, but when I reply to a message I want the "sent from" to be my gmail email address, do any of these push providers allow that?

Also can I want to see all my imap folders not just the inbox.

Based off of this thread I decided to sign up for mobiPush. When I try to enter my yahoo mail information, I repeatedly receive an "Incorrect UserName or Password" error. My gmail account set up fine. Anyone have any idea on what the problem could be with yahoo?

yahoo charges to use push email you will have to upgrade your email and pay a sub for that..it aint worth it gmail offers push for free. after using both mobipush and seven i must say seven is way better..mobipush drains the battery more and also seven has more options and yes it saves your sent emails in your sent folder. the only thing i dont like about seven is that it doesnt use your outlook on your phone and for each email address it uses a seperate account. i hate having that outlook account there for nothing. but w/e seven is still better than mobipush.

thanks savior02. first i was using the sprint mobile email program, then seven's new beta, and finally mobipush. looks like i'll revert back to seven. it's funny you mentioned having the outlook account there for nothing, a couple weeks ago i posted to a different forum asking for a reg edit to remove it. somebody found one, but it ended up stopping my phone from alerting me to new text and email messages.

Many users have lost entire mailboxes/accounts due to corruption. Push is very unreliable and runs the battery down in a hurry. YMMV

The newest version of FlexMail apparently fixed a lot of those problems - I have been using the newest version all along and haven't had any issues. I get gmail pushed before the gmail desktop app even gets new emails. It doesn't integrate with HTC home, that is true, but you get notifications via the statusbar.
