Quick contact back-up **NO OUTLOOK**

Hello all,

I think this is my 1st post so once again hello. I have done everything on my touch from installing custom tones to roms with the help of this awesome site. I have searched and searched but one thing i cant get the hang of is the contact backup. I tried to do it with outlook but it asks for a Microsoft Exchange Server and a mailbox name and Im not sure what to put in. I only use gmail and i am only trying to make a quick back up of my phone numbers in case i need to install future roms...thanks a million..

i believe if you typs your contacts into your outlook and when you add more names to your outlook on your pc or laptop it should sync and update the contacts on your phone.

That actually works both ways. I have Microsoft Office Enterprise with Outlook and when I connect and sync my Touch to the computer, it automatically adds any contacts that weren't already on my computer to my Outlook Address Book and also syncs contacts back to your device if they were deleted for whatever reason.

Learned this the hard way when my fiance was going through my phone and an ex-girlfriend's number had somehow made it back on to my phone without my knowing...

Trust me, it was anything but pleasant but a good thing to know for the future.

Re: Quick contact back-up **NO OUTLOOK**

The quickest, easiest way is to just copy "pim.vol" from the root of your device to your storage card. Instant contact/calendar event/etc backup.

Re: Quick contact back-up **NO OUTLOOK**

If you have a data plan, you might sign up for a free Exchange account at mail2web. Then you can setup your phone to sync with that Exchange server. You can sync contacts, calendar, and tasks. It sync automatically, so as soon as you make a change it will be saved to the server.

Then if you have to hard reset or flash, just setup the Exchange server on your phone again and it'll put all your info back on there.

I just did this for my wife's Q. She doesn't use mail2web for email, I just set it up as a way to sync everything automatically.
