Any way to make the screen turn into Landscape mode for certain apps?

I think it would be a big help to me if certain apps like SMS, email, and other things that require a lot of typing, would turn the screen into Landscape to allow for a bigger keyboard. This idea may have been inspired by using the Mogul, but I'm not sure..

I just assigned the camera button long press to change to landscape.

You can also try third-party apps like Lakeridge's Wisbar Advance, which allow you to specify screen orientation based upon the application in use.

sorry to partially hi-jack here, but I have a similar question. Any idea why certain apps namely the photo viewer in my case, seem to pick which ever orientation it wants? Sometimes I open it and its landscape other times I open it and its portrait, and my phone is always in portrait mode when I open it.

The HTC Album allows you to rotate the picture with your finger. Making a "curve" motion rotates the picture 90 degrees either way. You probably do it by accident and don't realize it.
