Doesn't necessarily have to be "Mac" anything or "Air" anything. I called it the Mac Cube because I was originally going to make a more traditional Cube with a Mac theme. Instead i decided to get creative. :-D

whats up with the quick dialer pane? seems out of place and a little weird, I wasn't expecting it in the video because you can't see it anywhere in the 'timeline'; what was the decision there musicguy?

I knew people still wanted a QuickDial screen, but I didn't want it to be the first thing that popped up. I liked the aesthetic of having the Launcher come up first. I decided to put it on the third screen so that no matter where you are you can get to the quick dial within a couple swipes.

The "timeline" is actually more of a navigation bar to let you know where in the sequence you are at a glance.

What exactly seemed out of place and weird about it, if I may ask?

well when looking at it, it appears each pane is the different slides in the timeline. I didn't mean anything was awry with the animation or fluidity of what was there, it just appears from a screenshot or first glance that when you swipe your finger the pane you are on will move to the right and the next one will move forward. when the quickdial comes out from the side it was not expected, as you couldn't see it at all until it was selected.

Does that make more sense? It is difficult to explain maybe. Looking at a screen shot of Pane 1, it appears that there are 5 dots on the top, and 5 'windows' in a row, so it is expected at this point that each of those 'windows' will be linked with a different dot and another pane. when transitioning from the second to third pane, i expected it to be the same as the first to second, fourth to fifth, and fifth to first, in that the 'window' would be brushed off to the side and the next one in line would step up. With the quickdial pane, that was not the case at all and I was surprised as the flow of the procedure was interrupted.

Ah. I see now. And I completely agree with your perception.

The reasons I made it come from the side instead of come down the line are:

Aesthetically: Since the QuickDial screen is much larger than the Launcher slabs it would look kind of strange sticking up above everything else coming down the line.

Practically: But mainly I decided to do it that way to save space on the device. If I were to shwo the QuickDial screen coming down the line I would need to create 120 frames of animation, and at 150k each, your device would have over 18MB of animation frames! Making most of the sliding animations generic, I was able to use only 46 frames of animation (only 2 more than the iCube has) taking up only 6.9MB.

I thank you for taking the time to share with me, and I hope that I have answered your question to your satisfaction. If not, let me know and maybe I'll make a larger version with the QuickDial coming down the line.

The icons in the YouTube video are the final icons for this release, but I will release icon packs in the future.

I had no idea how many frames of animation you included in yours, sorry, that's pretty insane. The custom cube I made had...well...a lot less. I understand, though in the future, one Without quickdial would be neat, as I'd like to just use my own brns and registry edits to make one of the standard 'windows' a quick-dial panel, to keep with the theme. That's not for everyone though, as many are afraid of the registry.

It'd be something that would be more useful once a cube config tool came out for this, as it'd require reg editing...but

Adding an extra "page" or two into the rotation and taking out the quickdial, one could use the trick that Polen posted in the VistaCube 2 thread to assign calling a contact to an "icon" and put their picture as the icon.

Thus, you could have a "quickdial" that would be in the standard "pages".

Yeah, I'll definitely do that, but not for initial launch. I'll be working on it.

Just watched the youtube video and it looks amazing but will you be able to choose where the contact dailer is located or will it be stuck in the spot you have it in the video?

The Cube is configurable through registry edits as to which screen comes up first. As of right now the APLauncher comes up first. If you were to scroll to the QuickDial and then dial a number, the next time you open the Cube it will be the QuickDial screen that comes up (just like the regular Cube).

Now, there is a registry value called "CurrentCube" which defines which Side comes up first after a reset. So, if you just had to have the QuickDial come up first after a reset you could set that value to 2 and reset. It would still show up as the middle dot, but it would be the first "side" to pop up.
