I placed my order for the 2000mah battery last week and 2 days later (Thursday) it showed up at my door. After reading extensively about the controversy with the 1500mah I decided to test the battery to see what it was it real world performance vs the oem one. Here are my results...
First let's talk about looks. The battery makes the phone ticker but unlike other extended batteries it doesn't adds a hump. The door is thicker all the way from top to bottom. As you can see in the pictures attached the added battery thickness is not huge and even with the extended battery is thinner than a Mogul, which to me was the breaking point for too thick. The door looks good and has the same rubbery feel that the OEM has and even with the increased thickness it feels great to hold. I have fat hands so the extended thickness helps with the one-hand control of the touch. The speaker grille is flush to the new door and the camera hole is wider at the sides so the case doesn't show in the pictures. I took the battery to my Sprint store to show it to some co-workers that have a Touch as well and some customers and pretty much everyone agreed that if the performance is enhanced as much as they state it is then is worth it the increased thickness.
Now lets go to the performance tests. Again these are real world tests not lab tests so your results may vary. First about the test equipment, I used a Sprint Touch the way that I use it, with the battery hacks enabled for all tests and SPB Mobile Shell installed as the only extra Today screen plug in beside the HTC Home included with the phone. Bluetooth on, Push Off.
First I did the not so objective but important for me "how long does it lasts in a normal day?" test. OEM battery worked from 6:30am to 4:23pm before running out. Extended battery with a similar or slightly heavier use lasted from 6:30am to 1:16am of the next day. I was careful to continue using the phone like usual during that extra period of time. This shows close to 90% usage time increase which is above their claims, which in part might show some unevenness in the testing of both batteries but still is a great enhancement.
Second test was media playing. I played Anchorman on TCPMP continuosly until the battery died and shut down the device. With the OEM battery I got 3.32 hours with the extended battery I got 5.94. Which results in around 79% increase which is in line with what they are promoting for the battery.
After doing some tests it is my conclusion that the product is performing as rated and that the increased life is well worth the money. The increased thickness is not significant keeping its profile below that of the Mogul and making it easier for me to hold and operate with 1 hand.
Downsides? Well, no hard case or holster available for it.
If I have time I will try to do a video review later this week so you can appreciate the thickness and form factor better than in my crappy pictures for which I apologize in advance.
And now the disclaimers that seem necessary these days for Seidio products threads.
