HTC Home customization. Customizer can't do this?

My home screen currently looks like:

I want it to look like this:

I'm currently modifying the HTC Sprint Home (QuickLauncher) plugin to achieve the top screen. There's plenty of room for a second row of icons... But I haven't figured out a good way to implement this. From what I can tell HTC Home Customizer can't do this (I want these icons as part of the premenant home screen, not on any kind of tab based thing). Of course those aren't the actual apps want- just stand-in icons so you get the idea!!

Any ideas?

Thanks for that link. It looks good, but I think it changes more of the UI than I want. I want to keep most of the HTC Home.

how did you get the second row of icons below the home, weather, launcher, and profile tabs? For some reason, my phone came with just one row. I noticed on the user guide, that there is a second row with phone, sprint tv, music, and live search. But i can't seem to find the settings to activate it...
Thanks!!!!

You can do it with Resco home plugin. As the matter of fact, thats what i think was used in the example.

So it seems like the answer is I can't do what I want in the context of the default HTC Home- I have to ditch it for a whole new home plug-in?

I just made new .bmp images, copied them to the phone, and edited the xml files that define the HTC Home Sprint (QuickLauncher) bar. The xml defines which icon is used , as well as what is launched for each button. The files are ql_skin_l.xml and ql_skin_p.xml (landscape & portrait version).

The only trick was understanding that you need to make two images for each icon- one for the color, and one for the transparency. Also they need to saved from a paint program that supports the .bmp format that this plug-in uses (R5B6G5)

I'm not sure what you mean. From the looks of it Wisebar is another one of those today screen replacements.
