more tether talk...

i was searching this topic a bit.. suprised there wasnt more on it...

does sprint charge users extra to use psc internet on their laptops/
silly...
i can use my internet on my laptop and share it with my touch if i so wanted, no problems there, i have the ultimate vision package... so i thought the reverse would be true... connect on to evdo... and pooof...
no go
so i tried the INTERNET SHARING, connected via bluetooth no prob...
but was unable to access anything on the laptop side....

i found this while searching:

"Extension"="rilphone.dll"

Usual caveats about editing the registry apply here--don't do this unless you know how.
anybody know anything about this?
any info in general would be great

Just use internet sharing and the usb to pc setting. The important thing is you have to open internet explorer and make sure your connected to the internet on your phone before clicking on connect in the internet sharing app. Then your all set and you don't need to use phone as modem and pay extra for it.

Mine works by connecting through usb on my laptop and then starting internet sharing. Works every time.

thanks for the posts all..
i should have specified.. can this be done via bluetooth as well..
i believe i did everything correctly, i am pretty familiar with networking, and getting things up and running...
is someone wants to walk me though, 1,2,3 to make sure im not doing some bonehead move...
ill start...
i connect to vision on phone no problem...
i then tried activesync (thats what i would do if i wanted internet on the phone via the laptop (if i was out of sprint range... and wanted to check for updates for programs etc..) i thougth the other way would work, connect phone to internet, connect computer to phone via bluetooth, active sync and would be good to go.. but that didnt work..
then i tried the internet sharing... set to SPRINT PCS, i connected ok (said CONNECTED on phone, and on PAN on computer side as well)
but when i tried to accesses anything on my PC, nothing...

am i missing something...
or do i have to us USB and bluetooth isnt an option (wouldnt see why that is the case)

thanks

If you want simplicity, then follow the referenced step in the first post to delete that registry key. Once you do that you can do internet sharing via USB or BlueTooth. It works flawlessly and no worrying about starting IE first to make the connection active.

No need to install extra software - it just works.

When you want to use your phone as your laptop internet connection, you DO NOT use activesync. You have to set it up as internet sharing. Your computer will install seperate drviers and list the touch as a network device. Connecting through activesync will not work.

I haven't been successful setting up a Bluetooth PAN with the touch, so I don't believe you will be able to use bluetooth with internet sharing. Bluetooth does work great for activesync though.

OK, here are the steps to tether your touch with USB with out paying for phone as modem service.

1. Do not have phone connected to computer yet.
2. Open up internet sharing app in your program folder on touch.
3. PC Connections should be set to: USB
4. Network connections should be set to: Sprint PCS
5. Now open up PIE on the touch and assure you have a live EVDO connection. (IE goes to a website)
6. Go back to Internet sharing page and click connect.
7. Now plug the usb cable into your laptop.

Windows will now see the touch as a network device, load the appropriate drivers and connect to the internet using your touch's EVDO service. XP or Vista, tried them both. This will save you the charges sprint adds on for phone as modem.

**ERROR**
When I try this it asks for my vision user name and password.
**Solution**
You must make sure your touch is actively connected to the internet by opening internet explorer on your phone before starting the internet sharing and plugging your usb into the laptop.
