Custom Roms Help

I'm trying to get into building my own rom for the vogue and I'm trying to figure out how to remove this sprint junk and how to remove oem programs that i won't use. DogGuy's kitchen kinda gives you a general description on the process but I'm still kinda lost on it. Any tips? Can somebody point me in the right direction?
