Music nailed it...

The Touch can do all your mp3/video needs.

The iPod does it better.

If the ONLY thing you need is an MP3 player, the iPod probably will do it for you. If you're also interested in a good phone, internet browsing, PIM programs, games, or the ability to check word or excel files along with mp3/video, the touch is probably for you.

One thing I can think of that my nano does that my touch wont is the runtracker feature in combination with nike. For those of us who actually run for exercise the ipod/nike run tracker is faantastic. I get in run feedback, upload my runs to the web database, track progress on distance and speed, donate miles to charities. can u source me a touch app that meets these needs.
If u have kids u maay realize the video ipod would be handy on long drives. Dont want yo give your child your phone right.

I could list more but whts the point

I do .
My 4 years enjoy every min with it.

I’ll tell you what I’m doing with my touch and if you can find a MP3 player that going to replace that or doing even better I’m open for suggestions.

During the week days, I’m putting my S9 on my head and my touch in the packet after pressing the cube on my favorite Talk radio (streaming on line, all the way to work , include tunnels with the blue line).
On the bus checking my E-mail and pip to ppcgeeks to check on you guys.

At work checking e-mail and using to keep in touch with friend (cell) and family (Skype).

Going back from work, listening to some MP3 and pickup my son from Scholl, he likes to play BrainScholl and froger , watch Sprint TV or listen to MP3.

On weekend, using my phone to entertain the backseat (games,TV) in the car and with TOMTOM software and BT GPS.

If you know about a device that could do all of those things, let me know.

P.S.

Apps in ppc is the best, you can do everything, include counting steps )

i have about 5 gigs of music and the last time i tried to get rid of the ipod, i wasnt able to. i want the touch to sync up perfectly with my playlists. for some reason i was no table to get my treo 700wx to do this.

does anyone use itunes and the touch successfully..

by the way, i do agree that convergence devices dont converge very well. the iphone to me is an ipod with a phone. the touch is a phone with a pda. i want one product that is small that does evrerything well. i hate having to have several devices. i dotn run but i do work out pretty hard in the gym and i just wanna make sure my touch will hold up.

Argov u seem to misconstrue the original posters question to make your plug.
The question was not name a mp3 device that can do what the touch does or most PPC.
The question was can the touch replace the ipod.

Myself and others feel not yet.

Your examples with your son are cute until he gets that all important call and he is playing the game and accidently hangs up on it or does not answer. Or the phone locks while streaming tv and u miss it. I have experienced this twice already.

You must also only have one child cause I would love to see 2 kids share one touch. I can tell you that will be one busted ass touch quickly.

The counting steps pedometer app u listed is a far cry from the run tracker. Or atleast the one I found is. It is extremely bsic and all it does is count steps and show calories burned. As a runner, in run feed back as to pace, distance calories is essential. Pace and distance being the most important faactors. The pedometer programs I was able to find were very basic and didnt provide this. Please point me to this app so I may review it. If it is up to par with the run tracker then I will try it. Also one of the bigger factors of the run tracker is the charitable things Nike and IPOD do with this run tracker. By running I have donated money to breast cancer and other charities. I have entered into competitions with people around the world through this using this product. If you had any experience in this area u would understand a step counter is useless to an actual runner.

You guys sound so cute.....

"You hate Apple"
"Nu- uhh"
"Yah Huhh"
Shut it...

To answer the guys question, depending on what you want to do, it might replace your ipod. I use both for different uses. My nano goes in my car since I can control it through my radio. Just put it in the glove box and forget about it. And when I go running because it's small. For my running data I use a Polar heart rate monitor with distance features anyways so I have no use for the nike thing. When I go cycling I use the Touch because I like to have my phone with me when i ride since I'm usually out further away from my house. As for video I don't use it much, and If i do it's usually streaming from Orb.

So there. No matter what you like to do, I don't think there's a perfect device for everything.

I really wish the touch had a standard 3.5mm headphone jack on it.

I completely forgot about the fact that I hook my ipod to the radio and use the head unit to control it. Then again I am usually using my pioneer inno yet another device in the car do to its recording features.
I need to get the 1500 or a second battery for my touch, by the end of every day I am on the exclamation for battery. That or a car charger.

Offtopic Gonz have u found an all in one HR monitor mp3 player and distance tracker? I have been looking everywhere for this and no one makes one. Now that would be a fantastic all in one.
