Problem with this as far as I can tell is there is no way to uninstall it, nor is there a "Contacts" in the list of options to use for a soft key. I wanted to change the left soft key, but not the right. I had no way to do this as far as I could see. No way to uninstall and get "Contacts" back on the right soft key.

Edit: Nope...not impressed. Resetting the whole device right now just to get things back the way they were. How can someone not alow for the ability to "uninstall" something like this and get things back to the way they were? I realize the program was free, but still.

here is a link to a file that adds a nice little program to your settings list, think I found it over on xda. this has a drop down menu for each key that will set it to any files on your device! No reset needed!

Enjoy and thanks to Boz over at xda-developers

just loaded and it works thanks

Unless, like I stated above, you want to go back to the way it was before the install or you want one of your keys to be Contacts. Then...good luck.

@theigster

You just need to do the following:

If you don't already have a registry editor, do a google search for phm regedit - that is a free editor. Once installed, navigate to the following:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 2
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 3
112 is the left key and 113 is the right.

Click on 112 and you will see two settings - One for the name - which you can make whatever you like or, if you leave it alone, it will be named whatever to whatever program you choose in this case you want to name it Contacts.

The other setting is the path for the program which will launch when the key is pressed. I believe the setting is this: windows\addrbook.exe change the setting to this then do a soft reset and all should be fine!

Yeah, I played around with that a bit and did find that in the registry. My point is though, while the program mentioned is useful, it should have been given a bit more thought and the creator should have had the ability to uninstall it as well as even cancel out of the program when the user goes into it. As it was, when I first installed it and went into it, there was no way to NOT change BOTH softkeys and no way to just get out of it without changing the keys. Yes, the program is free, but the creator didn't put much thought into it for the end user. Just my opinion and a forewarning to those that don't know that much about editing the registry and running programs like this.

That will open up the messaging app, where you can choose from text messages or email accounts.

I got it working thanks. However do you know what is the path that leads directly to 'new sms'. That way it will shorten the no of steps because I do this the most just like my nokia. Thanks.

TheIgster, there's a freeware app by Vicsoft called KeySwop that'll do all the things you're asking for. You can change just one button, just it's name, or just it's link. You can make it Contacts after changing to something else. And, you can uninstall it (though that will leave your softkeys however you last had them). But, it only occupies 72.5 KB of storage and if you're like me, you may want to try a different softkey setup from time to time. (Google to find a D/L link.)
