I just tried Intent to avoid hanging problems and it ran really bad.
1) No full screen 2) Scrolls so slow sometimes I thought it was hung 3) OPera asks to connect every time. 4) Can't exit Midlet, have to kil process. 5) Have to set focus to textbox every time you enter text

I have Opera Mini 4 running on Emsertec jbed. Prior to installing jbed, Opera Mini was routinely freezing the phone, requiring a soft reset. Since installing jbed, I've had to soft reset my phone maybe twice in two weeks, and I can't say that these very infrequent freezes have anything to do with Opera Mini.
For me, there is no comparison between Opera Mini 4 and PIE. Pages load on Opera Mini 4 much faster, but the biggest difference is the scrolling experience. At best, PIE is slow and jerky when scrolling. At worst, it is uncontrollable. Opera Mini 4 scrolls completely smoothly. I use the Mobile View (single column) and press on the sides of the rocker button to scroll up or down one screen at a time. You can scroll through a long page of data very quickly, smoothly, and accurately this way. That is why I use Mobile View. When Mobile View is unchecked and you have to scroll sideways to see the page, you can no longer scroll a page at a time by pressing the sides of the rocker button; you scroll sideways instead. I don't do registry hacks, so I have to start Opera Mini from the Emsertec icon, and go through the confirmations, but this is no big deal. And I've also learned that if you exit the program by pushing the end call button on the phone, it doesn't actually close the program, so the next time I want to open it, I just press on the Emsertec icon, it goes back to the "close program?" screen, I simply press resume, and I'm right back to the page I was looking at before pressing the end call button. In short, I don't use PIE unless I have to (occasionally, I stumble across a website that doesn't seem to like Opera Mini). |
