My phone will not stay in standby mode, any ideas?

I must say that i am happy i moved from the mogul to the touch but i have a couple of problems. If this has already been discussed please move me to the right place. I searched but not being able to search for 2 letter words like "Standby on" yielded unanswered questions.

So when i push the power button, the phone goes into standby mode. Within 3 mins it will automatically turn back on. It always does this and repeatably. I set it to turn off within 1 min so it won't completely drain my battery.
I think this is the cause for my low battery charge issue because the phone is warm to the touch even if i have not used it for 4 hours when.
Do you guys know what this problem might be?

Does this phone have sprint radio like the centro? My sprint music program doesn't work after I installed a new java program in there for opera mini.

What 3rd party apps do you have running? It may have something to do with a application running in the background updating itself.

Actually, I think it is more along the lines of the same issue that the Mogul has...when it switches from EVDO to 1X, the screen turns on. So if you are in a fringe area or indoors where the EVDO signal is weak, this could be your issue. Happens with mine too...I live in a fringe area.

I never thought of that, i am in a area dominated by verizon and Sprint signal is usually in and out.
I will make the weather app only update when i ask it too.

For third party software i have another version of java to run opera mini. It starts with a em.... but i don't think that could be the problem.

You don't even have to have a program using the data connection...the connection is always on, unless you are in airplane mode. So it is constantly looking for signal, and your phone will go in and out of EVDO on it's own. It is a known issue.
