new google maps with location finder not working on touch
anyone else tried this new version? it's supposed to be able to give you approximate location using tower triangulation:

do you think sprint maybe blocks access to the gps function for 3rd party apps like this? i'm going to try this on a t-mobile dash tonight see if it works on it. i believe it's just the software that attempts to use this function, sprint family locator uses the same concept and it works ok. but it's all done through a pc's web browser.

its not that gps is blocked to third party apps, its that its not enabled at all on the touch. also, it doesnt have to use gps, though it did say some devices may not be compatible.

Be careful installing and using this app. I installed it and every time I ran it it would crash and become unstable. Especially when I would try to sync google maps with my Bluetooth GPS. I'm back to using the 1.7

Isn't the whole point of "My Location" in Google Maps 2 that it works on devices *without* built-in GPS? It's supposed to get location info from the cell towers the phone's talking to at the moment.

At any rate it's a bummer that this feature doesn't work on the Touch.
![]() My main use for the GPS would be just to quickly let G-Maps determine where the heck I am. ![]() |
