Who has NOT had memory card issues with the Touch?

A number of us have had issues with our memory card files disappearing or the files becoming unreadable and I was just wondering if there are a lot of people out there who have no memory card issues at all (only if you actually put the memory card to use). So please let us know if you have never experienced issues with your memory card on your Touch so we can try and determine if we have defective phones or if it's a common problem. Thanks.

I have a 4GB Card and have not had any of the issues with losing files yet. The only issue I have is Sprint Music Store not recognizing the card, but I use WMP just fine.

batcatman 11-20-2007 11:52 AM

Its been a week since i had my touch and not a single issue with mem. card yet. I have a 2gig and installed it when in unboxd the fone, never touched the card again, and i have been toying with my fone installing/uninstalling atleast 10 apps everyday ;)

So do you actually have files stored on the card that you access on a daily basis or is it empty? Just wondering because you said you installed it and never touched it again.

I have a 2gb in mine, using it all the time.. Got my phone on 11/2/07 and still no problems.

Shadyrevolution 11-20-2007 12:20 PM

I got the HTC touch nearly a week ago, and had some minor problems getting it to recognize the included 512 memory card.
It turned out I hadn't quite pushed it in far enough for it to connect. The way you put it in is unfortunate.

Just out of curiosity, can you tell me the manufacture date on your phone? It can be found by going to the phone function (like you're going to make a call) and enter ##786#. The Reverse Logistics Support will pop up and "Manufacturers Date" should be listed in the list. Thanks.

mswlogo 11-20-2007 12:24 PM

I have a cheapo 2gig card I bought for like $20.00 a year ago on buy.com for the mogul. No problems. But I have no data going to it on regular basis, except iGuidance (constantly updates settings and reads maps from it). I store pictures, maps and cabs on it.

Cicatrize 11-20-2007 01:11 PM

No problems here. Are you sure it's inserted correctly? I had trouble putting it in the first time, but when I took it out and put it back in to make sure it was in, it was fairly easy (with the stylus), and it clicked in.

Krazy4Real 11-20-2007 01:21 PM

I've had no problems with my touch. I use iGuidance and I have music stored on my 4 gb card.

My manufacturers date is 10/29/2007.

Yes...I have taken my card out and placed it in multiple and ensured that it clicks (I have to use my stylus to get it in there fully). I've also tried the factory card and the one that worked flawlessly in my Mogul and I've had the same issues and it seems to happen once a day.

jimh2k7 11-20-2007 01:33 PM

No issues here had the touch and been playing with lots of apps daily since 11/4

wickedklown 11-20-2007 02:05 PM

No issues here. I got my Touch about a week ago and through in a SanDisk 4G SDHC card. Ton of Music, Movies, Apps saved on card.
If I were you I'd take it to a tech or exchange the phone while you're in your 30day warranty window.. Dear God if I have to send E-care 10 emails again.

ycats 11-20-2007 02:14 PM

I mean i never physically touched it again, coz its so hard to reach anyways, and i always use teh cable now. i have around 1 gig of files stored in my card and they are accessed daily, and all my programs are on card like wa3, wad, s2ul2...and a lot of junk that i install/uninstall/reinstall on a very regular basis thru the usb cable. not a single file has gone missing yet. My mnfr date is 10/27.

Cicatrize 11-20-2007 02:30 PM

My mfr date is 10/4/07 btw.

jhale83 11-20-2007 03:16 PM

Update: Took my phone to the Sprint store and they replaced it. We'll see how this one goes.

utexascg 11-20-2007 07:25 PM

i had a 2gb card in my Mogul (before Sprint exchanged it for the Touch). One day my memory card was unreadable so it asked if i would like to format. I told it "yes". It formatted and then displayed folders with foreign characters. I was unable to open any of my files. After ejecting and re-inserting the card, my phone was unable to even recognize it. My Touch cannot recognize it either. I've even tried to do a format on the card with a Card-Reader on my PC and it won't recognize it.

Any idea's?

willysp 11-20-2007 08:46 PM

No problems here. Mfg 10/13.

Sandisk 2GB.

budney 11-20-2007 09:07 PM

No issues here with a 2GB Lexar card that I use for cabs and mp3s.

SD Issues

No Issues using Sandisk 1GB Ultra II for the speed. It runs very fast and stable for weeks now.

hippity.hoppity 11-20-2007 11:56 PM

No problems with my Sandisk 6GB Class 4 card.

EtherealRemnant 11-21-2007 01:47 AM

No problems here. And I heavily use my card.

Manufactured: 10/26.

EDIT: Sandisk 2GB

dutchman71 11-21-2007 09:35 AM

No issues here, Sandisk 4gb used heavily. I did lose a bunch of my exchange contacts after a long night out.. Could have happened in my pocket I assume.

hi-tech 11-21-2007 12:29 PM

No problems since 11/5. Didnt even have it inserted all the way in the beginning and had no problems aside from the bezel not closing properly, now its in all the way, so its flush again. Stock 512mb, then changed to a 2GB sandisk. Almost everything I install is on the card.

dew.man 11-21-2007 12:57 PM

Mine ran fine for weeks with both 2gb and 6gb SanDisk, but over the course of the month, I've had 3 problems. Twice a soft reset brought back the contents, and once a folder was completely lost.

I may be totally off track, but it seems to be linked to the Photo Album app and/or email attachements being stored to sd...

SINNN 11-21-2007 01:50 PM

Just my 2 cents. I have been running the stock mem card for 2 weeks now and I have not have had any issues whats so ever with it. I must say , I am very impressed with this phone.

pjhurth 11-21-2007 02:06 PM

This thread is a good place to gather info, but just saying that we use the card and don't have problems might not be very useful. More helpful would be the specific way the card is used and whether or not a problem has been noticed.

For example, I had been using Newsbreak set to store RSS channel data on the card with auto-updating on every 5 hours. With this set-up I'd been getting SD card corruption a couple times a day.

I stopped using Newsbreak and turned off auto-updating and the problem hasn't (cross-fingers) happened since.

I don't blame Newsbreak for causing the corruption, but it seems that anything that does a lot of writing of many small files (or perhaps writing to the card while the device is suspended?) might trigger a problem inherent in the phone's SD driver or cache. Just having apps installed to the card might not be enough to trigger anything.

sprintrjm 11-21-2007 06:11 PM

4gb

The first time i put it in my phone, it pfroze, i soft-ed it and bam shes been working hard for about 3 weeks now.

Now i dont want to see comments like "thats what she said" or "your a jerk because your dumb", or "hah your herpies are contagious". What was i saying? Oh yeah...

2gb memory card with no issues

gtnotoriouz 11-22-2007 01:24 AM

Did anyone else get a TRANSCEND brand microSD Card with their Touch? :scratch:I got a Sandisk with my Mogul so just wondering.

hi-tech 11-22-2007 04:51 AM

Update, original posted I had no issues, however, lately my messaging app stopped opening. Last time this happened I had to hard-reset. This time changed the "store attachments to memory card" setting back to main memory. Messaging now works.

This is the only issue I now have with the mem card, and seems to be more related to the method attachments are stored on the card, opposed to the card itself since I dont have any of the issues other members are having. Card works normal otherwise with majority of 3rd party programs installed on the card.

budney 11-22-2007 03:54 PM

Well I think I spoke to soon. This morning I went to put my card in my reader. I had one music folder that was in gibberish. Then I made a new folder on the card to put all the cabs I had in one place to clean it up a little. When I clciked refresh, the new folder was gone along with all the cabs in it. Also a couple of cabs I deleted came back after the refresh. This did happen on my PC, but I do think it is Touch related. I used the card in my Mogul without issue, and my reader is two years old and never had a issue with it.

jambaj0e 11-23-2007 04:45 AM

I have a 6gb Sandisk card and have problems transferring files via Active Sync on my laptop running Vista and my desktop running XP. However, when I take out the card and plug it into the SDHC card reader that came in with the Sandisk card, both computers read it perfectly and transferred quickly in USB 2.0

jhale83 11-24-2007 01:26 AM

Update: I got my phone swapped and I'm still having issues. I'm having a problem about once a day but so far a soft reset works every time. Before, it would delete my folders sometimes and a soft reset wouldn't fix it. Hopefully they are aware of this problem and working on a fix.

Ph33zy 11-24-2007 01:51 AM

I have a 6GB sandisk, touch manufactured on 10/27 and i noticed garbled data today on my device. I had my device working fine for 4 days but recently installed Slide2Unlock Pro, and CardExport II, and MMS today. I wonder if its related to those apps. A soft reset fixed the issue for me.

jhale83 11-24-2007 01:57 AM

Ph33zy,

i don't have any of those programs installed so i personally think that's the problem.

EDIT: I meant to say i DON'T think that's the problem.

dew.man 11-24-2007 07:15 AM

Of the people still having problems, try this:

Disable email attachements to SD. Disable any today plugins from SD. Use quick menu to close any applications running from SD before letting the device go to sleep.

I've now gone over a week of heavy use without a problem since doning this, and suspect a problem with the SD interface slow to wake up similar to what I've seen on other HTC devices over the years...

Big D5 11-24-2007 10:56 AM

I have only had my Touch for one week today with no issues at this point. I am using a 2 gig PNY card this is the same card I was using in my titan. I have no programs loaded to the card with all the memory available on this device it seams like a waste to load programs to the card. Having all my programs loaded to the device allows me to operate my Titan and Touch with any card I want and all my programs run without having to have the card installed. I do have my email attachments loading to the card and I have music, movies, cab files, and much more on my card that I use every day. Thanks to the OP for bringing this issue to everyone attention I have made a backup of my SD card on my PC and I recommend everyone do the same as this seams to be a valid issue on this device, I would have been very upset if I had lost the files on my card because I have been collecting this stuff for a longtime.

Ph33zy 11-24-2007 02:56 PM

Quick update ... I had a corrupted sd card three times since installing s2u2..Removed it and havent had a pro lem since...I dont have anything running from the sd card btw
