Registry for Newbs

So I am totally new to the whole PPC scene. Can someone direct me to a good newbie tutorial for backing up my Touch and its registry. I plan on doing a bit of customization and want to make sure I don't kill it. Oh, also a tutorial on registry tweaking itself would be helpful, if one is available. Thanks!
