Re: Are there different manufacture dates for the Touch?

ok, i went through 3 different touch's. i think i found a good date
1-10-08>speaker fixed itself, battery door has creak, sd card trim protrudes a fair bit with added card, sd card wouldnt click all the way in (returned for sd card problem)
1-19-08>speaker quality was terrible, touch screen was very responsive, sd card trim still protruded a little, not as bad as the first one (returned for speaker sq)
2-12-08>touchscreen not as sensetive as the last one. hoping i can fix this, but everything is solid. no creaks from battery door yet and i opened it a few times, sd trim has next to no protrusion with a card in place! sound is very good. I think they fixed most of their build quality issues around this mfr date

How did you manage to get this working on your Telus P3050? When I enter ##786# on the dial pad it does not do anything.

The only problem I have had with mine (knock on wood) is the SD cover stuck out from the side of the unit about 1mm.

I don't want to ruin your just-built confidence, but I personally think the build quality of Touch is shi*tty. I've used 5-6 touch, (my own and store demo). The mfr dates back to 10/7, and most recent one is 02/08. Among all those devices, there has been one problem that keeps showing up. The waterwave on LCD screen, you can see it when "touch" the screen with a dark background. This most probably will lead to smudges/shadow spot on your screen later on. I have seen smudges on two touch within one month's usage. Some idealists blamed user for their usage style instead of the manufacturer, but I'd tell you I babyed all my phone but still smudges showed up. There have been other issues such as protruding SD cover, too tightly fit stylus etc. HTC's build quality and QC is even worse than Motorola, unbelievable!

nah, youre not ruining anything. i'm happy with it for now. i guess i just havent crossed that bridge yet..
i do agree though, their QC has gone down the drain. i had a tmobile dash from them, and that phone was incredible. its taken a few beatings, and despite all the claims against people breaking their lcd's, mine never did and its been a year + half. ive come to terms with this phone not being perfect, i just hope the next htc phone is not touchscreen only and more like the kaiser

I managed to correct this issue. Another user said that he had an SD card that was just a little to long for the SD slot on the device. So I pulled out mine and sure enough the panel was sticking out because of the SD card. So I took an x-acto knife and carefully shaved back the top of the SD card. Now the card fits perfectly.

You will find a file called epst.lnk in your windows directory - just click on it and select view and you will find the Manufacturer's Date near the bottom of the main screen.
