EV-DO on Sprint's Unlimited Vision Pack?

I upgraded to the Touch but have never been able to use EV-DO with the Vision Pack from my old phone/plan ($10/month). The EV icon is always displayed but when I try to connect to the web it changes to 1X. Do I need a data plan or do I simply need to pay $5 more to get Power Vision? Also, what benefit would it be to select the $20 unlimited Power Vision plan? (I apologize for these rather simple questions but the website isn't very informative)

I'm not 100% sure about the EvDO and 1x issue.

However, you only need the $15 Power Vision plan since it already provides unlimited data. The $20+ plans just offer more perks such as more SprintTV channels, etc.

I don't personally use them so I stick to the $15 PV plan.

You will definitely need the specific EVDO SOC code attached to your plan for your device to utilize the EVDO network.

Thanks for the input. I should say that my plan is based on an outdated family plan from a few years ago so I am sure I don't have an SOC Code. Currently on 1x in Chicago I get speeds of 65 kbits/sec. How much of a difference is there on EV-DO? If it's relatively small is it possible to eliminate the Ev options so my phone doesn't default to it? It's pretty annoying waiting for the Ev to not work and then connecting to the 1x (almost a minute sometimes).

Thanks

Yeah, you need EVDO. When we upgraded our old vision phones to PV, I was able to talk retentions into giving me PV Access for $10 + 500 free SMS messages, which is almost as good (actually much better then) the old $10 Vision + unlimited SMS.

I am not sure about touch but I have been using 6700 on old $85 plan with included vision for over 2 years and never had problems with EVDO.

^^^That's interesting. I was calling Sprint when I read this and hung-up. Is there anyway that I can turn 1X off so I can try to force an EvDO connection?

Ok, found this link HERE for forcing Ev/1X. Didn't work for me to try and force Ev so I'm calling Sprint for the upgrade.

Here are the specific speeds in relation to Sprint's 1xRTT vs Sprint's EvDO:
o CDMA2000 1xRTT = 144 kb/s

o EvDO
§ Rev. 0
· Avg Download = 400-700 kb/s (Max = 2MB)
· Avg Upload= 50-70 kb/s (Max= 144 kb/s)
§ Rev. A
· Avg Download= 600-1.4 kb/s (Max= 3.1MB)
· Avg Upload= 350-500 kb/s (Max= 1.8MB)
The difference is not even close. Well worth the EvDO plan.

Much Luv,
