These is not particular application that causes this problem, but rather OS access of the SD card.

Util a fix is released from Sprint/HTC, the only real option is to not use the SD card for anything but temporary, backed-up storage.

The good news, is that the phone has plenty of memory, and is extremely reliable if you don't use the SD card...

You can use the card all you want for reading. It's writing that you want to minimize.

Interesting...

Well, perhaps it MIGHT be tied to setting the messages (or attachments) saving to the card. With regard to that, I went into Tweaks2K2 to see if I had anything set to save to the card. Nothing. I then went into the email settings to see if anything was set to save to the card. Nothing. All had seemed to be okay at that point. The "gibberish" folders were still on the card although all of my other stuff was there.

I left the phone docked with ActiveSync overnight to charge. I noticed this morning all my stuff on the SD card disappeared again!

I tried downloading to the card directly with success. But my hopes of "waking up" the card that way that way didn't pan out (I assumed that's what happened last time). But I am able to see and access the file I just downloaded to the card. I noticed that some of the folders were duplicated(notably cookies, history, live search, temporary internet files, wmdrm, etc.) and the same "gibberish" folders were still there. A soft reset didn't change anything.

Note: taking the card out of its slot and putting it back in doesn't seem to fix the problem.

update

Okay, I did another check with Tweaks2K2 and noted that Temporary Internet Files were marked as being saved to the card so I changed it to "Windows" (on the device itself). Then I did a soft reset. After the reset I went back to the card and noticed that the duplicates had disappeared but none of my other stuff on the card had come back up. Just the "gibberish" folders, Live Search, History, Temporary Internet, WMDRM folders.

So, I went to delete the Temporary Internet Files folder. After that was removed and the screen refreshed, I found that it (or a duplicate of it?) and duplicates of the other folders mentioned above reappeared!

Okay this is a little weird...

Another update...

Interestingly, I'll go back to the card to see the single folders as mentioned above but when I close out Total Commander and then go back to look at the card again, the duplicates are back.

More weirdness.

More evidence that it has something to do with saving attachments/IE files/messages to the storage card, in my opinion.

Smile Great Recovery Tool!

Same thing happend to me last week. I used PC Inspector File Recovery.

Backup up your card weekly. If you do have corruption you can use the above to to recover the card.

You will need to take the card out of the touch and coonect it to your pc using a card reader.

Hopefully this will be resolved in the next update!

I agree with you all that this may have something to do with saving things to the card, but I do not think it is just with emails, pics, or videos. For example I have some programs that I use that have the program databases stored on the card, and these programs update their content weakly. I have noticed a couple of times now that after these weekly updates, my card will be corrupted and the files "gone" (although they really are there still because the data storage is still used up).

I usually have to fix this by reformating the card on my computer and then re-installing all programs again from my computer back-up of the card. Very frustrating. I too think that the only way this well be fixable is if HTC come out with an update that addresses this problem. Who know when or if this will ever occur....

The latest from me...

Okay, here's what I've been seeing with the latest event of this issue.

First of all, I was seeing duplicates of the WMDRM, cookies, history, etc. folders. I then made sure my internet temp files are saved to the device. Then I deleted the internet temp folder in the card and deleted the dupes. That seemed to solve that situation. However, my original stuff wouldn't re-appear although I knew it was there.

I put the card in an adapter and into my PC, tried a recovery utility on it without much success. When I put the card back into the phone, I noticed all of my original folders came back, etc. Unfortunately, the programs and icons associated with those files and folders wouldn't work. I tried copying and moving them to another location but that wouldn't work. So, it was at this point that I decided all was gone. Fortunately, I backed everything up to a folder on my PC. Essentially, copied everything to that folder.

Keep in mind, I formatted this card at FAT32 a little while ago. Assuming that this contributed to the problem, I re-formatted it to the standard FAT16 and then copied all of the stuff I'd backed up right onto the card.

Now everything seems to be back as it was before all of this started. That I know of so far. Haven't noticed any issues over night but I'll keep a close eye on it for the next few days.

I do have what I believe to be a new issue with Windows Media Player in the phone...it won't play the videos the phone records. I get this error message attempting to play back:

"No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection."

Don't know if that's related or not.
