How to disable the touchscreen?

I know that it sounds odd on the Touch, but HTC forgot to add a feature to disable the touchscreen while on a call. Does anyone know of an alternate dialer that offers that function? Navigating to the buttons on the bottom of the screen could be done by using the D-pad (like on the Treos).

map the long-hold end key to lock the screen.. although that also disables the dpad.

Just hitting the power button works alright except changing the volume wakes the screen. I wonder if anyone at HTC has ever used a phone before.
