I don't have a Touch (and likely won't get one) but my Mogul, with the 2.09 ROM, has AMAZING battery life. I haven't even done the DISABLEPOWERMANAGEMENT registry hacks, and I was able to email pretty much constantly in a full day training class yesterday without access to charger and still had 70% by 5:00! My Apache would have been drained by about 3 in the afternoon without supplemental charging.

I just recently hard reset my Mogul, and with the 2.16 ROM, my battery life has never been better. But, the stats people are posting on here about their Touch seem to be better than my Mogul.
Why are you so sure there are fanboys of the Mogul? this is the Touch forum, it's more likely that theres Touch fanboys in the TOUCH forum...

I think the poll is acheiving its purpose. I bet the battery life of each is equivalent.

Same comment I was about to make... what says it's Mogul fans making comments?

I have a P4000 (Mogul) myself, and while I can't compare to a Touch, I can say this thing rocks for battery life. I came off a Motorola phone and it would blow through a battery in half a day or less. This thing (power saver hacks, 1500mah battery, stock Telus 2.13 ROM) will go all day and still sit at or above 50% and I'm not easy on it. It constantly amazes me how long it lasts.

That said the Touch is a less complex device (as mentioned, fewer LEDs, no KB, etc) and in theory should have some updated components. How much that offsets the smaller battery who knows. I'd expect on the same battery though the Touch would last longer and it should. It's simpler and newer. Pretty rare that a new device doesn't outlast or at least match its predecessor.

While that might be true in general, the fact is that the Touch and Mogul were designed around the same time period, use pretty much the same chipset , which other than the screen, really determines the power consumption. So if we take the fact it has fewer LEDs and no KB, and a weaker battery by almost 33%, on paper the Touch and Mogul should be about equal or the Mogul slightly better.

My last data point I'll offer:

Mogul and Touch both charged overnite, taken off charger and soft reset at 7:30am.

Mogul used 10-15 minutes today - no calls, no BT, no Internet
Touch used 60-90 minutes today - 2 short calls, no BT, most of use was Internet

At 10:30pm, Mogul was at 50%, Touch 80%. 15 hour duration.

So, Mogul used 50% of 1650mAh = used 825 mAh, or 55 mA/hr.
Touch used 20% of 1100 = 220 used, or 15 mA/hr.

I think some of the explanation is signal strength. I'm working in a client site where I have poor cell reception. Mogul battery has always drained faster than normal in this building. I do get a slightly better signal in this building with my Touch.

Yep - you busted me. I must just be making up the numbers I just posted, huh?

Believe whatever makes you happy, but for my 2 specific phones in the specific environment I've been in this week, there's a significant difference.

All of you complaining about the Mogul's battery life are nuts.

I get three to four times the battery life out of this thing untweaked than I did on my tweaked 6700...

Eh... maybe I just get good battery life because Sprint has coverage everywhere in Denver. I've never seen my 6800 below two bars when I'm in the metro area or any of the suburbs... And my 6800's battery will last me two days of heavy usage.

If I ever get a Touch (retentions screwed me out of it for the time being and I'm done fighting for now), I guess I'll find out.

So when did this thread shift its focus from a comparision of Mogul vs. Touch to Mogul vs. 6700? I have a 6700 also and agree the Mogul is better than the 6700. But that's not the topic of this thread, is it?

Back on topic:

What is your specific experience with your Mogul versus your Touch? Please post data showing how your Mogul and Touch devices perform on the same day in the same environment.

Oh, you don't have a Touch? Then why are you posting an opinion here?

I'm not discounting anything you've said.. I'm just saying this thread is equally or more likely to attract Touch Fanboys as Mogul fanboys. It's irrelevant really, since it's very easy to get a Touch as replacement for the Mogul. I did it and I'm on a SERO plan.

You posted those numbers afterwards, and they make sense to me. You're definitely on to something about the Mogul draining battery in areas of poor service. I bet they optimized that on the Touch after seeing how horribly they designed the Mogul's radio
