Re: Tethering A Touch

Does anyone know if I HAVE TO HAVE the software for sprint for this to work?
Meaning the active sync program?

I would like to do this with my laptop, but also, I DO NOT want it to sync and lose all my contacts from my home PC.

Anyone care to explain this?
THANKS!

You can set up activesync to not actually sync your phone, and just use it as a USB connection. When you first plug it in to your laptop, it will ask if you want to continue with Sync - just click no, and it will allow the usb connection without the data sync.

I downloaded 4.5 active sync and its working AWESOME!! Very fast, very impressed!

Now.. Big question. Are we sure Sprint is NOT going to send me a HUGE bill??

Thanks

Here's what you need, first unzip both to folders then install the MS hotfix attached.

Now try to hook up TOUCH as a Modem as posted, it will look for the drivers, well point it to the drivers file that you downloaded and uzipped.

Drivers ripped and provided by Relux.

Primenall, I got it to work downloading active sync 4.5, it works great any reason I should use what you posted?

Again also, can people confirm Sprint has no clue I am using my phone as a modem right now? Using the instructions in this thread, connected to I.E. to open a connection, go to internet sharing, connect with sprint PCS NOT PHONE AS A MODEM and plug in the usb.

Works great, but I don't want sprint to know, do I have to delete a registry or something?

THanks.

No that's just the Modem drivers and MS hotfix needed for them to work, just in case you don't want to install A.S for whatever reason, as you were saying.

As long as you have an unlimited data plan (Vision) you should never see additional charges, except the occasional $1000 monthly bill.

That's good news, did you delete the Rilphone.dll Registry Entry to enable I.S. to connect by itself too?

Primenall: What program do I use to edit my registry please? Thanks!

You can get the free PHMregedit or the way better Resco just google either.

You have to be careful and keep track of what you change in case you want to change it back(besides that one you're going to do, as it's getting deleted, this time instead of changed)

Read a little about registry edits first if you want.

With PHM after you make a change wait a couple of minutes before reseting phone as the change doesn't always stick if you reset right away, for some reason.

You can also make a backup of your registry before making changes with those programs if you want to be extra safe.

Are there any drivers available for Mac OS X for tethering? I don't need to sync but do I need to buy Missing Sync or PocketMac? Seems like a lot of $ just to use as modem.

Everybody should be clear on one thing....while i have been tethering causally for years without any additional plan addons, and i have never seen any charges for it, there is no guarantee that Sprint can't see what you're doing, and they might decide to crack down and charge, particularly for power users.

Regardless of how you connect, there is a way that Sprint can tell, the question remains, will they do anything about it. As always, Caveat Emptor, or in this case, usesr beware.
