Tethering A Touch
Is is possible to tether the touch to your desktop or notebook? I know that I could with my 6700, but I just want to make sure that you can do it with the touch before I go and grab one on Monday!
|
I use PdaNet and it works. The Touch also supports PAM without 3rd party software if you are paying for the PAM plan.
|
So Mustang can you tether with the Internet Sharing with just PCS not PAM, like the mogul.
Plug USB only into laptop/pc 1. Open IE on Touch to start Data connection 2. Open Internet Sharing on Touch and leave it as USB and PCS and hit connect 3. Plug usb into Touch, wait a minute for PC to detect Touch and you're done. If it doesn't connect first time, try again. This is on XP Thanks..... |
Honestly I didn't try, but that didn't work for me with my Mogul so I didn't even try with the Touch. I can try this evening if nobody else does before I get a chance.
|
Hey Mustang, let me know what you come up with. I truly appreciate your quick replies!

Same problem
Doesn't quite work like my old PPC6700. I'll be watching this tread. Thanks guys!
|
I my self like more the USB Modem app than PDAnet its much more easy than PDAnet and its very similar to the ppc6700 Wmodem its great ever since i got it so try that one out aand then deside between the two
|
Does USB Modem work on Touch?
Edit..I tried this and got Error 67, Power Vision Username or Password may be incorrect. Anyone know what my username and password should be? edit2: A soft reset fixed that problem..Mow USM Modem keeps disconnecting after a few seconds of being connected... edit3: Disabled compression and all is good |

Clarification? |

It in this case it prevents I.S. from initiating a data connection on it's own unless you have a PAM plan and set it to that......when you hit connect with I.S. set to pcs it won't dial into Sprint and connect. It is a pretty lame attempt as all you have to do to get around it is have a data connection already going before you hit connect, which is easily done by opening IE on your phone first. It may do other things as well like alerting Sprint that you are connected with I.S. or something like that, but I'm not sure as I'm just a novice, Luv2chill is the real expert :D |

ICS over BT worked for me on both the Mogul and the Touch out of the box. No changes to anything other than me opening PIE first, and selecting PCS...

I just want to use my Touch as a modem (on occasion) with my SERO plan...without paying for it of course. Is the method described above the best way to do this? |

You should delete this entry from the following link out of the registry, and it will eliminate step 1 and allow I.S. to dial up a data connection on it's own without having to op IE first. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...5&postcount=35 |
or just rename the filename. I renamed mine to "rilphone.dll1" from "rilphone.dll" and it works fine
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] "Extension"="rilphone.dll" |
Thanks, this works great.
Silly Sprint, Tricks are for kids! |
PDAnet work over bluetooth with a Mac?if only the WIFI application could work on the Touch.
|
What is I.S.?
|
I have used the Sprint Touch cell connection with PDANet over bluetooth with my Nokia 770...and I have used it with my laptop over USB.
No Registry hacks required. |

For the record, ICS on my touch works with Blue tooth out of the box on both Mac and Win.
|
This works great! Deleted the reg file too so that I don't have to open IE. :headbang:
|
Is it true that PDAnet makes it appear that its going through the phone and not as a "phone as modem connection?" So you dont get charged extra if you have a regular unlimited data plan?
I have a WWAN card in my laptop but this might be cool for my girlfriend. |

where do you go to open internet sharing?
|
I find that opening the weather button is a little quicker than going into IE

That is listed in "programs". |
ok great... geez i just bough a usb aircard had i know this i would have never bought it. thats going back tomorrow... one more question. would tethering some how make my active sync not work. all the sudden my phone wont sync...
|
I myself use PDA Net. A one time charge of $29.99. If you use PAM, Phone as Modem, sprint can come back and charge for their PAM plan $29.99. I think back with my 6700 I tried pam, casual usage was fine but whenever I tried to download a file, their system kept kicking me off.
And no troubles activesyncing with PDANet running! |
I'm having a pain in the arse time connecting with my Macbook Pro. It works about 10% of the time, and I usually have to repair the device in order to join its network.
|
Just thought I'd share:
I just traded my Mogul for the Touch. When I had the Mog', I did the "start IE, start IS, plug USB" and got an error 67. Didn't do it too much.. after about 4 tries, I gave up. Knowing that, I was expecting the Touch would do the same, but it didn't. It went right onto the net. Couple that with EVDO and you get a pretty good speed. Thanks guys! |
Re: Tethering A Touch
What do I use to edit my registry?
|

1. Start data connection (open Weather, Opera etc...) 2. Plug usb into PC only 3. Open I.S. and hit connect 4. Plug other end of usb into phone.....wait....and Surf You can watch on your PC what is happening to troubleshoot, go to START/CONTROL PANEL/NETWORK AND INTERNET CONNECTIONS/NETWORK CONNECTIONS/ Now as soon as you plug the usb into phone you should see a connection POP UP and it should say aquiring address then switch to connected when ready. If it doesn't do that hit dissconnect in I.S. then unplug and hit connect again and plug usb back in phone. If that doesn't work try anything you can like maybe switching USB ports on PC or when hooked up..... on the Network connections screen on PC highlight your connection and click "change firewall settings" turn it off just to check if that will let it work. |
