Should I buy a HTC Touch?

Hi All,

I'm new here and looking to purchase my first smartphone (it's actually for my wife.) I've done a lot of reading and this phone is very customizable plus I can get a really cheap plan from Bell. My question is: should I buy this phone and do the upgrades? All she really wants is a reliable phone (this IS our home phone), access to her contacts, a shopping list-type program and the occasional web access. I don't want to get this phone if the hardware/software is still problematic even after the upgrade.

I'm planning to put NFSFAN's 6.5 21864 SYS on it as it sounds the most stable.

I look forward to your responses.

Thank you.

Re: Should I buy a HTC Touch?

It really is a great phone--nice and lightweight, fast (with a good ROM like the NFSFan one you mention), and plenty of battery to get you through the day even if you use it quite a bit. You're planning on paying for it, though? Mine was free from Verizon with a two-year plan, though I don't think they offer it anymore. I think you'll be very pleased with this phone if you end up getting it, and there are lots of great people and resources between PPCGeeks and XDA-Developers to help you with anything you need.

So...as long as the price is agreeable I'd say go for it!

The Vogue is a great device. It has been good to me! Very dependable and rugged. Yes, it is very customizable and compatible with lots of software. A lot of users use NFSFAN's ROM and are very happy so I don't think you made a bad choice there. You can always try another if you want. The Vogue is still one of the best options available . Good Luck!

Re: Should I buy a HTC Touch?

Yes, you should purchase this phone. It can do a lot more than my dad's blackberry and my friend's stock iphone OUT OF THE BOX!
The phone is so light, i barely feel it in my pocket! It comes with a case and it uses usb, so its free. plus customization is one of the many attractive features.
ALSO ANDROID CAN BE LOADED ON THIS DEVICE!

Yes... It's a workhorse... Just don't expect to crank out any major texts or emails. The keyboard is quite small but it works well with the stylus.
My wife really liked hers but now LOVES her TP.

HTC Touch is a pocket pc, not a smart phone. Pocket PC > Smart Phone.

Re: Should I buy a HTC Touch?

The Touch is a great device I have 2, one for myself and one for the wife. I love it and the wife loves hers. They have many uses and are very customizable.
Of course I do think that only one thing could be better, that is if they had Wifi.

Re: Should I buy a HTC Touch?

My friend just went out an spent 400 on a crappy samsung something rather for Metro...

My two year old vogue running android punks his and most of my other friend's phones.

When you compare the price of this phone in ratio to its features to any other phone, it wins hands down.

Enough said.

Re: Should I buy a HTC Touch?

its a great phone.
friends all jealous because of the sleek size and power. can beat my friends iphone hands down (the phone that everyone compares it too). beats my dad's blackberry hold, my uncles curve, my mom's iphone and env touch, and my former treo 700p. it also beats my friend's treo800, my uncle's nokia n95.

-windows mobile 6.5

Re: Should I buy a HTC Touch?

The Vogue is a great all-around device, I bought mine around 6 months ago never having owned a PPC and now I'm fully addicted. It's very customizable and a lot of fun to play around with. I say go for it.
