Both are 32 degrees now. I added my local small town, and it shows somewhat OK high/low temps (compared to local forecasts), but the current temp is 32 (NOT).
I also don't get the pretty weather graphics for my location (Four Oaks, NC 27524), although accuweather has no problem with this zip in a browser.

Maybe the whole shebang could be pointed to another weather source, like weather.com.

What does it take to make a location work properly these days, anyway? ](*,)

EDIT: Solved my problem with the latest link, and got the new database. Didn't fix the other issues, though. Bummer.

EDIT: Got a look at the new database, and my state capital isn't even in it. Used to be. I was using it for weather, since it was the closest to me, and it's raining there. The rain drops and the wiper are a pleasant surprise and almost make this whole experience worthwhile. :-)

raleigh seems to be working fine for me, right now it is raining and the high is 68 and the low is 50. So i have it working on mine right now.

also what issue are you still having with it? you say you got it fixed? but let me know what issue you are having

What is your state capitol?

Well, now that I reverted back to a previous city database file, everything is working fine now. Raleigh is working, as is Four Oaks. I probably didn't soft reset enough times. I mean, it is still early in the day, isn't it. I'm not yet firing on all cylinders. Just wait till I get fully revved up! You would be surprised what I can screw up when I really try! ;-)

Trying to update my list but it's been giving me problems.

I just upgraded to the latest official Alltel ROM (WM6.1) and nothing's working. I had it working once, but I can't remember what I did. This is on a PPC6800 with HTC v2.1.

Oh, could you add Billings, MT (59101)?

I tried the official Alltel ROM, but didn't like it. Lot's of thing weren't to my liking, so I went back to my preferred cooked ROM and all is well with the world (at least my world).

As for adding your city to the database, copy the file to your computer and add it yourself. Save the file and copy it back to your phone, then soft reset. Worked for me finally, so maybe it'll work for you.:)

Where have you been hiding? That list is super complete, and basically eliminated my project of just doing the state of Louisiana! That's a ton of work!

Hiding! thats where I was hiding :P

All kidding aside, I just recently (as in, the last week or so) got into modifying my phones. up until then, I was using a stock carrier rom for my apache (WM5 from alltel)

My apache screen is finally starting to die, and occasionally stops responding to touches. So in looking for replacements and upgrade models, I stumbled across the touch pro. in looking for info about the touch pro, I stumbled on ppckitchen/ppcgeeks. And voila, my life story in 3 minutes.

Sadly, I don't think I can hold out for the touch pro. I am expecting my 6800 any time now.

As for the database, it was fairly simple. I found a complete list of zip+4, city and state (and a bunch of extra info) from the US Census bureau. I downloaded it, and wrote a perl script to parse the needed information and format it into this database.

I'll keep the script handy though, because the usps and us census bureau says that on average, 5,000 zip codes change every year. so I expect I'll occasionally have to re-parse the data.

I'm just glad my first post could be something the community appreciates, since I appreciate being able to have a fairly inexpensive new hobby ;)

Re: Custom Weather Database 10/16/2008 - City Request Accepted (works with Manilla)

That is a great way to start out here! My thanks and welcome here. I can't believe you were running WM5 still. WM6 was ported to the Apache over a year ago by Helmi_c, and WM6.1 has been out for months. BTW, just a tip before you give up on the old Apache give the screen edge a good cleaning with the corner of a buisness card. The gap between the touchscreen will collect lint, dust, etc and raise havoc with the touch interface, and a simple cleaning out can work wonders.

I did catch an error in the file. Louisiana is misspelled Loisianna. In the process of correcting now before adding to the .xml database file.

the easyest way to get the cities codes you can find them here up in the link after you set your favorite city:
http://www.accuweather.com/world-ind...AS%20CITY|&u=1

or:
http://www.accuweather.com/world-ind...012|PARIS|&u=1

this is the thing you must write in the weather edittor posted below EUR|FR|FR012|PARIS|&u=1

like you see in the link and you can edit the xml file with the notepad or use this software for the touch phones and not only

I probably need to stop trying to add things!

I now cannot get any city to pull up, except what i have saved as my city. I had Dallas on there and tried to change it and it will not even open. I think I am stuck with Dallas, Texas!

Okay what did you add? I didn't get a chance to post what files you needed to use the custom weather. If you already had the HTC home, and installed the 6 tab that may be a conflict. The files you need for the touch/vogue/6900 are the patched dll and the weather database. I attached the cab. Just copy it to either device or storage and run it. It will patch the HTC home and redirect to the custom server. add the weather database(last file on the doenloads in the OP) and copy it to /windows. It will ask if you want to replace and click yes. I recommend a soft-reset, and it should work.

NOTE: This is for the stock Touch(Vogue) HTC Home.

Hi, I installed the htchome.dll file then did a soft reset and everytime it'd freeze on the main screen before itd fully load. I had to do a hard reset to get the device to boot without freezing. Any suggestions?

Need more info to see what you exactly installed on what ROM with which HTC home. If you didn't get asked if you want to replace it may have been trying to use both, and that may have caused the lockup.

Good suggestions. I added Kailua, but some cities I'll need help with as far as zipcode etc. We have a database from the census beareau, but some of the cities in your list aren't in there. So join in the project and help us help you with adding your requests. FYI, it will only show cities that show up on accuweather.com and their cities.
