Custom Weather Database 11/11/2008 - City Request Accepted (works with Manilla)

4 Attachment(s)

How to use it. Okay I have been working on this for some time. and Now it is finally available. I have gone through and deleted every city that is not in the United States. I then went through and renamed every city, So that it will show the State instead of the country. and then I went and added 300 more cities to the database.

How to use it. Just take this file (HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml) drop it into your windows folder from activesync. Then soft reset your phone and if you go to your weather tab from HTC home, it should include all of the updated cities.

This will only work with HTC home. For any chefs you can also include this file in your custom ROM.

Please if you want your home town added, let me know and I will add it into it. Sorry I did not have a chance to test every single city that i added into it. but they should all work, With any changes or anything please let me know and I will make them.

I hope everyone enjoys this, Dont forget to press thanks.

okay for people that can not get this to work i have included 2 different cab files. the one called HTC kaiser Home, is a 5 tab it does not include profiles, it that is what i am using it it works for my custom weather, the other one called custom weather is a 6 tab htc home plugin, it to will work for custom weather, so if you can not seem to get this working, try to install one of the 2 cab files and then try again, because i have this working on mine, and it seem to work great.

Okay sorry for everyone that has not been able to get this to work, you can try to install either of those cabs below, of there is another file called HTChome.dll and if you use resco explorer or total commander you are able to drag that file into your \windows folder. this is the stock HTC vogue file that allows for custom weather, so if you can not get the other files to work, use this one if you are using an offical ROM and then it should work. please let me know, i will also be updateing the weather in a few minutes. Thanks for everyone.

To make this work with manilla, Download this file and place that and the weathercities file, into your windows folder. This will add custom weather to manilla.

for help this link should help you out a lot.

ok I tried it but it didnt work, might have something to do with the version of htc home I have or something could you post up the cab that you are using for your HTC Home?

check the first post again. I use a custom rom with all of this cooked into it so it works for me, but this cab should work just perfect, it is also a 6 tab.

Thank you!!! for sharing conflipper! I'm sure that many will benefit from your hard work! I'll take a look at it this evening. Is wichita, ks in there? :)

This is what this site should be about. Us all working together and sharing, That way we can all make better roms and better understand our devices and the programs that run on them!

Thanks, much.....adding the file to windows was very easy. I did notice one thing, peculiar to my situation. My nearest little city is Santa Maria, CA. No problem setting the weather, however, the temps are off, when I compare them to Accuweather's site.....for example, right now it is saying that the temp is 90 degrees in Santa Maria, but when I click on "more", which opens internet explorer to the Accuweather page, the actual temp is 78 degrees. The five day forecast is off as well. Is there a chance that it is pointing to the wrong city?

Re: Custom Weather Database- City Request Accepted

Just installed your Alltel ROM, as you know, and came across a mistake in the cities. You have Weirton, OH, but it should be Weirton, WV with a zip code of 26062. Right across the Ohio river from Weirton, WV that I thought would be worth mentioning is Steubenville, Ohio with zip codes of 43952 and 43953. While you're at it, can I request another town not too far away from Steubenville? The city is Martins Ferry, OH 43935.

Changes Made, Thanks for letting me know that. I also added the 2 cities that you asked for. Updates are in the first post. All updates will be in the first post for future use.

Re: Custom Weather Database- City Request Accepted

Can you add Snellville, GA 30039. Also, you say it works with HTC home...isnt that what comes standard on every carrier rom, or are you talking about the CUSTOM HTC home that includes more than 4 tabs? I only ask because in the today screen option, HTC Home has always been there, as long as someone didnt remove it...

some people use custom roms and not every custom rom has HTC home. Give me some time, and let me get some more request. and then i will add snellville to the list. but yeah. HTC home is included in every single carrier ROM.

Thanks again.....Pismo Beach works just fine. However, I think that Santa Maria, Ca is still pointing to the wrong zip code. Next time you update, please include San Luis Obispo, CA (93401)....

Idk sometimes these things work, sometimes they don't

Re: Custom Weather Database- City Request Accepted

It could be your version of HTC Home doesnt allow for custom weather, some of the older versions had this.

Updated the list, included
Lake City
San Luis Obispo
Snellville

also for santa maria, now matches the accuweather website. so it should be fixed now.

there is another file in the first tab that is called custom weather, it includes a cab file, that has the 6 tabs and then will also allow for the custom weather, That is going to be the easiest thing i can tell you. I am not sure the exact reason or anything I guess.

if you are with alltel you could also try and flash over to my custom rom, it includes the 5 tab home, but it does allow for custom weather. And it is allso 6.1. so while alltel cant seem to get the officaial update out to anyone, you can always try that for now.

i forgot to sort it before i saved it, so if you just either look at the bottom or if you click on country and then back to city, it will then sort it by itself, so for the files i just updated. look at the bottom of the page.

Hey, it'd be great to have Collegeville, PA 19426. Being that Philadelphia is the closest, and well over an hour away, and never having the same weather as we have here, is very annoying :( Thanks!

Why do so many of them work for me but others do not.
I can see Little Rock Arkansas and Indianapolis Indiana and some of the larger cities, but I cant see Hot Springs Ar or Houna LA or Hutchinson KS.

Any ideas?

As a matter of fact. no cities in AR work except for Little Rock

every city that i have added in arkansas are custom, except for little rock, and so that is why some will work and others will not.

Try adding something for me.
Add it as "Hot Springs National Park"
instead of Hot Springs and lets see what happens.

Thanks

EDIT- Added 6 tab htc home cab file

I have the WM 6.1 Sprint Rom from HTC's site. Can this be used with that official ROM, or do I have to use a cooked ROM? Also, is there a .dll or registry edit that can be done to change what website the weather info comes from?

i feel like a noob here. umm. why aren't you guys simply using HTC Home 2.1 (patched to work with any city, you just need to add what you want) together with HHCv10Final (custom change HTC Home)? It's much easier and more convienent than what you are doing. If you'd like me to post the files I can.

Re: Custom Weather Database- City Request Accepted

Instead of having to go through and add special cities and installing HHC. Just dropping this file, or cooking this file into a rom and then you don thave to go through and install another program or anything like that. HHC is a good program, but if some chefs would like to try and satisfy more people by including a large group of cities from the unities states then it is that easy. the rom loads up and right there you have everything.

has for working on the official sprint 6.1, it should work, i am not certain, i include the 5 tab sprint home in my custom roms and the one i am using now and it seems to work fine on there, so you could always try it.

DarkLord 09-04-2008 09:46 AM

Re: Custom Weather Database- City Request Accepted

i was just making the offer. i did what you guys are doing for awhile but i liked the custom stuff better. that way when i'm traveling and i want to change the data base, i can easily. you can also change the clock type, icons, background.

I'm on Sprint with their latest rom.

conflipper 09-04-2008 10:10 AM

Re: Custom Weather Database- City Request Accepted

yeah it might be good if you could load that up, i am sure a lot of people could find that very handy.

I uploaded one zip file that contains both cabs as i mentioned before. I have used these on literally every rom i've ever tried with no problems. but that sure doesn't mean there may not be a custom rom out there that these programs won't work correctly with. there are so many custom roms out i just don't know.

Is the important info for the file to use the ZIP code??
In other words is this what Accuweather actually uses for locations??

Just curious again.

conflipper 09-06-2008 10:19 PM

Re: Custom Weather Database- City Request Accepted

yeah accuweather uses the zip code to find the weather. so the zip code use that and everything. so the zip is the most important.
