I know its not a big deal, but I do get confused in the earlier months.
All you need to do it change your regional setting in the Settings. By default, Vet's ROM is set to Austraila, I believe. As an alternative, you can also change the format all together by adding a registry setting."HKLM/nls/Overrides/" String Value name "SSDte" to value "MMM d, yyyy". This shows up as Oct 25, 2008. Of course, you can format yours however you like. Perform a soft reset after the change has been made.

Here is just another option...

change it to "ddd, M/d/yy"

This will give you... Sun, 10/26/08 ... which comes in handy on the home screen of touchflo so you don't have to goto your calendar to see what day it is which makes setting alarms easier
