This ROM still has two minor bugs that I also observed in the .2 ROM (but are not present in the original 6.0 ROM):

1) Occasionally, in the Contact app, the right side ABCDEF index disappears, REGARDLESS of the setting of the Alphabetic Index option. A soft reset followed by toggling that option usually brings it back.

2) Clearing all SMS (Tools>Clear) leaves a "dirty" screen (the window doesn't properly update, showing all textmsgs deleted). But in fact all msgs do get deleted. And if you have more than a page worth of SMSs, it leaves up the infamous color wheel/pie forever -- you have to know that its done and switch into something else...

Otherwise, a great update...

Just want to make sure that the newest rom is dated 06/30/08 from the "device information". Why you guys said it's dated 07/21/08?

BTW, if you restore a backup file from .2 rom, in the device info, you will see rom version as .2 but all other info seems to be intact

A workaround for #1 is iContact. I just installed this app yesterday and it makes using contacts so much easier and finger friendly. I found it at Freeware PocketPC.

What version os Sprite are you using? I am using 6.22. A level 1 restore is just personal data. Level 2 attempts to restore settings etc, but supposedly is aware of the potential issues with an upgraded rom and manages file restoration based on that premise.

Free options are out there for just about everything!
I personally have paid for mine simply because It is such an important piece of software to me, and they have continued to develop it.

HTC is the one that creates the ROMs for the carriers, the carriers themselves don't create the ROMs. This HTC Sprint ROM has all of the Sprint customizations in it and it doesn't have the full suite of HTC apps.

I installed the ROM from a few weeks ago and had the opposite issue - when setting up a gmail account, the setup wizard auto-set the protocol to POP3 and I wanted to use IMAP4. I'm guessing this issue happens on any email extension the wizard recognizes.

I got around this by entering a slightly broken email address in the very first wizard screen - e.g. my.emali@gmai.com (it can probably be any domain name, really, as long as it doesn't match a recognized provider). It didn't recognize gmai.com and took me to the page asking if it should try to get email settings automatically. Uncheck this, and you'll be able to specify the protocol type in one of the later screens. After you finish setting up the account, you can go back and fix the email address to have a proper extension.

Problem is not with the rom, it the weird policy enforcement.

Anybody found any workaround for this. I have seen some work around to disable the pin based security but none to enable the internet email like hotmail or gmail or yahoo....

You're not going to find much of a way around this. It was built to be more secure for the corporate environment to take away some of the bbery market.

Your only recourse.... Hopefully you are good friends with the Systems folks at your company. Beer and food is great bribery. But depending on the company, you may not have a choice. BTW, just so you know, they can remote wipe your phone too... EVERYTHING including storage cards.... So don't be mean to them if you don't get your way. hahahahaha
