Re: NEW official Sprint ROM posted on XDA-dev by DCD

Well, I managed to do what should have been impossible. I downloaded the software, followed the instructions, began the ROM update, the bar showed progress at about 5% and I went downstairs. I came back and the Touch had Red, Green Blue and White bars on the screen and the program said that it had a "Communication Error". It said, no problem, the following will reset your device. The following did not and now I have a Sprint Touch with Red, Green Blue and White stripes. A brick. Can anyone suggest anything to reload the original software? Help!!

If it boots to the multicolor screen you aren't bricked yet. Just plug it back in and reinstall the ROM.

Re: NEW official Sprint ROM posted on XDA-dev by DCD

It was writtin in reply to my problem that "If it boots to the multicolor screen you aren't bricked yet. Just plug it back in and reinstall the ROM."

Unfortunately, once I go into the recovery mode, the update starts to download, but then tells me that an upgrade is not permitted with my device. The RBG and White screeen remains. The first time it did this, I took the phone to the Sprint Service Center and they replaced the phone. I went home and I figured there must have been a problem because the backup software (Sprite) was running on the PC. I made sure the program was not running and I carefully did the upgrade again. The same thing occurred at 10% download. The uSB disconnected and the same warning error came up. The new phone was now bricked. I had to go again and get it replaced. (The good thing is that both phones had the better viewing angle screen.) I wonder if I am having a problem because I have the 64 bit Vista Ultimate running and the upgrade cannot work on 64 Vista. I have given up for now trying to upgrade. I might wait until Monday and try my plain 32 bit Vista at work. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be bricking phones? Has anyone had a problem with this upgrade?

I used an old XP computer and now everything works fine. WARNING: Do not use Vista Ultimate 64 bit for updating to this ROM.

Interesting about the Vista 64 bit. I suppose I will never find out why the upgrade bricked two phones.

when i upgraded my phone i made sure that i installed the following:

windows mobile device Center 6.1 64bit edition
hooked up my phone via usb cable and let Vista find it
Unhooked phone from USB cable and went into bootloader (power botton, camara button, soft reset button) and let vista find the phone again
Then unhook from usb cable, boot the phone
Do a ##786# and complete the install of windows mobile 6.0 Warning this will cause you to have to reprogram your phone so write down your msid and mdn and know your msl code to do the ##786#
After Windows Mobile 6.0 installs then run the new rom...

worked for me....
