Re: Verizon XV6900 upgrading tutorial and troubleshooting!!! GPS enabled!!!

I just wanted to say thanks again for the help, and I did flash my phone over the weekend. I would also like to leave a note on my experience... I flashed the Sprint ROM then OMJ's ROM. However, I didn't re-auth the phone until OMJ's. This required me calling Verizon. I did not, however, realize that the dialer in OMJ's ROM is incapable of using the programming codes... which was greatly confusing the lady at Verizon I was on the phone with, and greatly worrying me lol. Anyways, after about 15 minutes they were able to have me call a number, and they were able to call my phone to get it re-authed, but I'd just thought I'd add: be careful to re-auth with a dialer that you know works with programming codes, I didn't even think to check when I did it.

Ultimately, I used PPC Kitchen to make my own ROM, and I'm very happy with WM 6.1 and GPS

Re: Verizon XV6900 upgrading tutorial and troubleshooting!!! GPS enabled!!!

never mind... just said f it and did the unlocking/upgrade anyway. if it is a virus... then its eating away at my phone as we speak...

finally did it and now im running the new sprint rom. got a little scared when i couldn't make calls or receive calls (but could use the internet) but I called and authenticated and all was fine.

However, call me retarded... but how do i now flash one of the cooked roms on the touch? I downloaded a rom... someones .rar file. Ive searched all over and can't find an answer of how to run it.

for example...

step 7: let the phone sync and tap to begin...

step 8: run whatever rom you feel comfortable with.

but how do i run a rom?

I feel like the answer is right in front of me or there is one small step that i am missing and i can't find out where its hiding.

Thanks

PC-cillin kinda sucks. I use Avast which is free! I doubt it is a virus unless You have a virus that prefers to store a copy in the folder.

Re: Verizon XV6900 upgrading tutorial and troubleshooting!!! GPS enabled!!!

Question: If I have run the unlocker, it it necessary to rerun each time?

Haven't flashed the radio upgrade or a ROM yet. Getting prepped - have stirred the pot using the PPC kitchen tho...

Re: Verizon XV6900 upgrading tutorial and troubleshooting!!! GPS enabled!!!

Hi guys, few questions about the gps...currently running the 20270 kitchen.

I run the HTC GPS Tool and I can see up to 6 satelites, but I never get a lock. Never get a satelite either using Google Maps.

1. Should I run the ppst.exe? I do recall seeing someone say not to run that for the verizon phone.
2. I dont have the GPS Intermediate option under External GPS in the connections tab.
3. Any reg edits that would help?

Thanks

Re: Verizon XV6900 upgrading tutorial and troubleshooting!!! GPS enabled!!!

Props go out to negamann and all the others on this forum who have contributed. I'm a total noob when it comes to mobile platforms. I didn't even know what flashing a rom meant a few days ago (much less IPLs, SPLs, CIDs, RUUs and all the other acronyms), but knew I wanted 6.1 on my 6900 and VZW was slower than a sloth in getting it up. After spending a couple of days reading primer materials, I took the leap and followed the tutorial in this thread. I used the Sprint ROM and then flashed negamann's ROM with Mobile Office. Followed the instructions to the letter, and voila, I'm running 6.1 on my VZ6900. I had to call to reauth my phone, but it was no big deal. I first tried *22800 and it ran through and said my phone was programmed, but I could not send/receive calls or txt until I called them.

GPS works great (locked on to 6 satellites within 30 sec), MS Office attachments work fine, exchange server syncing works fine. I have the dysfunctional Scenarios icon on my Today screen, but I'll tackle that over the next day or two. My only point of confusion was upon unpacking negamann's rom, there were several executable files, and I didn't know which to run. I ran the RUU, and that turned out to be right. I had to remove my Touchpal, which automatically synced back onto the device, but needs a different build when going from 6.0 and 6.1. The 6.1 build works great, and I highly recommend Touchpal.

Thanks everybody for your efforts and sharing of experience. I hope to be able to contribute something useful as I learn a bit more and start doing my own creative cooking.

I had this as well. Load your older version of S2U2. Then uninstall it. Then reload it back. This way, you'll only have one copy as you can't uninstall the one that comes w/the ROM until you install the new over it. You may have to delete the old folder with the apps in it.

But you'll have the full page caller ID with the red / green buttons back. That's what I liked best as well.
