Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
Flashed with new sprint rom and OMJ's VZ rom (the one before the new one) last night, now im going through the authentication process. The woman on the phone said my Key was active and that i just needed to turn my phone off for 10 seconds and start it back up and i should be able to send and recieve calls
ill update when i do this... |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
Okay so i can now send and recieve phone calls and text messages.
But one thing about google maps, is "my location" supposed to work now because i have GPS activated? |

Hopefully they don't notice, but they do check this stuff... Until there is an official ROM release from VZW, there is no way to safely do this. People should understand this before they go flashing their VZW XV6900 phones! |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
Damn that suck rolandroland. Now we know what it does now. So anyone who lets the customizations run is just gonna have to kick themselves and HARD! Havent had the time yet but I wanna integrate the latest radio into a verizon rom. Just for us :)

Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
ok, this is what happen to me, I update my Radio first then run Sprint, then run PPCKitchen.org Vogue GPS 3.02 Kitchen, I did something that I can't have anything run right, anything I try to run it will popup error that the software I'm tring to run missing files. so I run the Sprint again, then I run the OMJ's ROM and now I have everything working good for me.
whey the people who have lets the customizations run can run Sprint again and then run the Verizon ROM's, whey not? |

Well, Phone is on and sending recieving etc... Was up until 6am what a mess! So, here's my problems now... I have no clue what I placed in my ROM it's UGLY! So I am going to convert to that CLean I just saw posted. But, I did like some of these that I added by BuildOS. anyone have a list of what these programs are etc. That I would know what I am getting into? And thanks for all the help guys! Don |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
HAHA yeah we all get a little happy when adding apps. gotta be conservative though. If you hold your mouse over the apps in Buildos. they usually tell you their function.
On another note. Anyone want to try out this rom/radio upgrade for verizon i made up? need a brave soul or someone about to return their phone http://rapidshare.com/files/12665686...0_RUU.rar.html I highly doubt it will brick your phone. If you do. Results please! :) Ka911: Sprints customization rewrites sooo many things in the phone, not enough people that have verizon are experienced enough to make a fix. so we are limited. im trying though |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
So how can you tell if your GPS is working?
I tired using Google Maps GPS but i kept getting an error... |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
What error would this be? Make sure to use com port 4 and the holux gps viewer can be your friend. I've picked up 7 satellites at one time with that on baud rate 38400
Check out this startup animation i put together :) and bootsplash as well! The other verizon animated splash was kinda choppy. so i sped it up a little. I have em both running on my phone. they look good If anyone wants this animated splash with their name on it. PM me. free service :) alternatively get a GIF Creator/Animator/Editor and do it yourself http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...3/VZW/VHTC.gifhttp://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t.../HTCSprint.png |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
I've been using GPS Viewer (which came with the OMJ rom) and the only satellite i pick up is in com 4. What should i put for baudrate?

As for the swap I got my new phone last night with no problems. The trick was I got a return auth before I attempted to downgrade by stating mms was gone and then having the tech try a bunch of times to fix with OTA programming and what not. So when he couldn't fix and I only had my phone a week he did the rma so when I got to the store the tech didn't even need to troubleshot and look at it since the swap was already ok'ed. Not that I advocate screwing the phone company but since they do it to us on a regular basis if every once in a while they have to do some extra reconditioning work... |

Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
OK, here is my report with the new/old phone
I did Sprint ship and them OMJ's custom verizon. Did *228 and was blessed with the witch's voice that my phone was successfully programmed. Loaded my goodies, SPB PS, MS and backup. All good. GPS was a prob. Finally on my way home, I tried GPS again and whoa, Google maps, Live search and GPS viewer all worked and good! Happy camper here. Now, on the old; I did the 0.4 unlock and then flashed oit with the ROM posted and it worked just like it was stock..nice. Now, I'm going to brick it though, just for insurance. Goona pull the plug during the flash. Negamann =D>=D>=D> Thank you! |

Verizon's official line is that they do more thorough testing than other companies before they release phones. The truth of the matter, I think, is that more restrictive software takes longer to write and debug. The sad thing is Verizon really does have the best coverage and customer service, but the user base is getting older and when their kids have to start paying their own cell phone bill, they are going to go somewhere that allows them to BT ringtones/pics/files/etc back and forth. The GPS thing, though, was purely HTC, not any of the carriers. That's why none of them released with GPS on the CDMA side. |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
okay just a bit of help guys
now im usually in the titan forum but a friend of mine asked me to put gps on their xv6900. so I went through all the steps listed, using omjs verizon rom. now seeing it was a new phone I had to call verizon for an a-key. now the problem is I run gps viewer, I do not get lat/long but where the N is I get a red circle with a number. I tried running google maps and gps times out. is there any way to increase # of gps satellites on the xv6900? it takes way too long (minimum of 5 minutes maximum of 30 minutes) to get a gps satellite. I will admit I got two using google maps two days ago but the wait is too long. should I try another rom or is this location specific? |

Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
Just an update for you guys....IT WORKS. OMG IT WORKS. BRICKED TWO PHONES TO GET HERE BUT IT WORKS! Now I just gotta watch and make sure VZ doesn't charge me for those two...lol. To my fellow noobs the most important things i've learned in this process:
1.) Make sure that you terminate your data connection if it's still existing before doing anything. I strongly believe this is the reason why folks end up with no data initially...your session ends up getting hung up. I also turned off the phone radio just to be sure. 2.) Do not let customizations run. Once you upgrade radio just leave the screen on the "Tap to Begin" screen and plug the phone to your computer, activesync will still recognize and from here you can flash whatever ROM you like. 3.) Calling VZ isn't a big deal to get re-authenticated. 4.) Once you run google maps or any other GPS program and see it run in all it's glory....IT MAKES IT ALL WORTHWHILE! |

Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
i been jumping around roms for a while. mostly to get GPS working. settled on ghettos is most stable, JDs seems to be good at gps but was buggy sometimes, and OMJs was filled with nice stuff and gps worked sometimes, kinda in the middle of the other 2. Gonna try out the new radio and see what happens with those roms. GPS has always been buggy. get quick locks usually at home, and only at home lol. anytime i really need it i wait forever and give up. a couple times its locked within 5 minutes outside of home. home is a bad place to test cuase of hot starts which get quick locks after first time get lock i think.

cool..... tested via real world today driving into city and back home. worked good. lost signal for a second a few times. but overall consistant. locked usually within 30s-1 minute while in car driving trying to get a lock. and a few seconds if closed and trying to relock.

Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
Wow - after 2 bricked phones I have negamann to thank for his thorough and complete instructions. My VZ6900 now has 6.1 and working GPS.
Reading the threads posted since his instructions were also very helpful. I didn't understand going in about what the Kitchen was all about ... more options than I could have imagined. Personal experience - my first RUU build did not allow the "Settings" tab to work. The second attempt is working perfectly but I lost my authentication (which was maintained through the 6.1 and RUU updates). The Verizon rep took 5 min to regenerate a new AKEY since it could not do OTA authentication. All set! |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
Great news for anyone who allows Sprint customizations to run on a Verizon XV6900: I got mine working on Verizon again without bricking it! My thanks to drellisdee and verizon tech support (negamann thanks for your suggestions but I waited for a safer method). Here's the basic outline of events (from the beginning of letting sprint customs run):
1. I loaded ImCokeMan's unlocker ver 2.31. 2. I loaded the Sprint ROM and MISTAKENLY let customizations run. 3. I re-ran the Sprint ROM and soft-reset before customizations ran again. 4. I called Verizon to re-authenticate my phone to get phone calls and sms working again. I regained phone calls but my data connection was broken (wrong user-name and password) and my phone also looked like it was "roaming". My GPS radio worked (so-so, took a long time for a lock). 5. I re-flashed a multitude of other custom ROMs (thanks to PPCKithen's BuildOS) to test various things but still had same results (good phone and so-so gps but no data and still looked like i was roaming). 6. drellisdee helped me with the rest. For the "roaming" problem, he directed me to the following post (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...o+refurbishand ) and that fixed that. 7. For the data connection problem I had a high ESN number (following the guidance on drellisdee's post at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...174#post202174) so I SIMPLY had to call Verizon and ask them to re-provision my phone for data connectivity. I explained a hard-reset wiped me out and now I can't reconnect. They had to escalate the call but within 15 minutes on the phone they had me connected again. I had to pull the battery out while they re-provisioned my network profile (i.e., re-authenticate). They also explained that when using *228, I should only select option 2 because that will both update and re-associate with the towers - she said it does more than activation option 1. 8. Now after testing a bunch of PPCKitchen ROM variations, I think I'm settling on OMJ's Custom Verizon ROM. IMO its the most complete and using it my GPS locks within a minute inside my house. BIG sigh of relief after recovering from Sprint custom's running on my Verizon phone. |
Re: Upgrading Tutorial For Verizon XV6900!!! Radio 3.42.30 with working GPS
That is awesome alcatec! Nice to see there is a fix. Sounds complicating but it definately is a fix. I will post this in the tut. :) oh and the "roaming" link you have doesn't work. can you get me working a link? thanks much :)
