Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

Go to the official HTC site and download your 6.1 update. I just checked it out and the downloads there. I'm about to install the rom and see how everything is. I'm not sure if it has gps or not (fingers crossed)

http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=80&act=sd

Adds EVDO Rev. A capability for faster download and upload speeds*
Upgrades tfgho Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
Improves overall device functionality and stability
Adds new shortcuts for easy access to TELUS mobile email, TELUS navigator and Pocket Express applications

Edit: Due to a faulty link it would seem they just up and took down all the information pertaining to the rom on the update page.... as opposed to just fixing the link.

Edit by ImCoKeMaN Here is the actual link (from page 5) now that it's out:
http://216.139.227.226/Telus/RUU_Vog...TPatch1.20.exe

Ok so they took that down, i did link it in the stock rom sticky though

yeah definatly bell. Damn it. I'm going to call the support line and call the support line and find out what's going on. Get them to fix the link and maybe email me the rom update.

In regards to GPS. On the altell update I dont see it saying anything about GPS there either but we know that that has gps. I use a bluetooth gps reciever myself but want to be able to use the internal gps antenna

Brick

Dont attempt to intall the rom if you have GPS radio, the rom comes with a radio.

Its not 6.1, its WM6

CE OS build 18125

so the radio that comes with it.... it is or isnt gps capable? How can we tell if its gps capable or not?

Also, you said its not wm 6.1 but it says right on the list of upgrades "Upgrades to Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional" So that to me would mean 6.1 I could be wrong. Since there isnt a telus rom update there I assume it SHOULD be there so we should find out as soon as they fix the link issue.

I emailed customer support since the phone number for canada didnt work and asked what the deal with the link was.... when it would be updated (I know updating a site can take some time) if they could email me the rom directly AND if this rom was GPS capable.

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I broke the rom down, it's WM6

If OS isn't GPS, I highly highly highly doubt the radio is.

So if this isn't Wm6.1 and it doesnt have GPS what's the point of the update? I thought the whole purpose of WM 6.1 was fixing a bunch of little issues making the phone more stable. I have no idea how to break down the rom, just from what it says on the site (that being that its an upgrade to 6.1) and the Altell update page doesnt say anything about GPS I was hoping at least for something here.

I've been waiting for this telus update for a long long time. I dont want to flash my phone with an unofficial rom and brick the phone and void any warranty or anything haha.

I hope you are wrong about it being wm6... as far as gps goes it does say it has telus navigator but I think that uses AGPS, not too sure though.

Adds new shortcuts for easy access to TELUS mobile email, TELUS navigator and Pocket Express applications

if the upgrade mentions Telus Navigator wouldn't that mean gps or at leaat a-gps is enabled in this rom since that program needs gps to function.

Only one way to find out

But none of that is in the rom.

What is the difference? Why the update? I'm with Bell and have downloaded and am thinking about updating. Is it not worth it then?

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

well now the update section is empty. The bell update is still up but no telus anymore. I guess it was easier for them to wipe the page clear as opposed to just fixing the link. Bastards

Update: Well now the page is back up... annnnd the wrong rom link is still there. Fantastic!

I just tried to do the update and it failed with the message:

ERROR [294] : INVALID VENDOR ID

This update utility cannot be used for your PDA phone. Please check your update utility.

So although it was not branded in any way (Bell or Telus) it obviously is not the Telus ROM

The rom posted on the telus update page is the bell rom... which isnt Windows 6.1 or rev A etc. I can only assume that since all the information on the page refering to the new rom is correct so when the rom IS put up there it will be rev A, 6.1 and hopefully GPS (Telus Navigator)

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I was talking to HTC just a couple of minutes ago. Apparently there's an issue with the web site itself and it keeps defaulting to the Bell downloads. The guy I spoke to said that it is now being looked into but confirmed that the update for Telus is there and ready. He said it should be up by Monday most likely.

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I contacted both Telus and HTC Canada and neither one new anything about it and I was told to send an e-mail pointing out the problem to the webmaster as the site is managed by an external company. As it happens I went to the site and looked around and there is not even a Telus directory only Alltel, Bell Mobility and Qwest. There is no ROM on the site for Telus. The Telus tech I spoke to thought there was an upgrade in the pipe but had no information on the delivery date. So I guess we take heart from the fact that the page is there and it is Telus specific and wait for them to get the ROM posted and the link updated. :angry7:

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I am thuroughly impressed with HTC..... somewhat. I emailed this morning around 2 am I think and I already got an email back. Here's my original email and then their responce.

"I just checked out the software update page for the telus HTC touch and went to download the new rom. The link on the page directs me to the bell mobility rom for their touch so the rom obviously wont work with the telus touch (I did try which is how I found out it was for bell) Is there any way that this can be corrected? I realize that updating a website can take some time so is there anyway you can just email me the rom update directly? ALSO, This is the Rev A and windows 6.1 update, I can see that much however does this activate the gps antenna as well like the Altell rom update that was released for the Touch. Thanks!"

"

I reasked if they could just email me the rom and if the rom activated the gps anetnna as well so we'll see. At least we know its there, errr supposed to be there. Although I'm not sure if that just makes it wore. I went from checking the HTC site every few days to literally hours if not more today haha.

Well it looks like they fixed the problem the Telus ROM update page is gone! :disgust:

While we are waiting anxiously for the release - does anyone know how to dump the existing ROM in case I am not happy with the upgrade I would like to be able to restore my device to its factory state?

I just tried it and it is for the P4000. What morons.

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I was in a telus store in West Edmonton Mall on Friday and one of the service people found a notice that there was an update coming for the Touch in the next 60 days. She says it is going to enable rev a and upgrades to wm 6.1, but no mention of GPS. If you go to a telus store, it is on the vendor site as a notice, not on telus' regular site.

This is radiculous. Its wed and still no update to the website. Both the telus website and the HTC one. I actually just assumed it would be up monday since really, how hard is it to change a link!

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

Hi all - save yourselves the grief and find an unofficial 6.1 ROM w/ GPS. I made the plunge a couple of days ago. End result: GPS, twice the download speed, no more lockups in sleep mode, and my microSD card corruption has apparently stopped.

A bit early to be 100% sure on that last point, but I've been writing everything to it (attachments, photos, video) and with the stock ROM, it would have corrupted by now.

The phone is finally worth the contract.

Do we need to unlock our phones like we would have to if we were flashing one of the roms based on the alltel or sprint roms? Do we also have to update the radio?

Thanks

Yes whenever you do a non-offical carrier update you have to unlock your phone first and then update to the gps/rev. a radio. It's easy and unless you have a hardware failure and need to bring it back to telus for warranty repairs there is no problem. I've found that you can fix any software problems by using the search button.

What about calls directly going to VM ? Still the same ?

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I've tried two ROMs - the one posted by ghettofreeryder above, and this one: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=29103&page=5.

Ghettofreeryder's has an issue whereby if the GPS is engaged, calls go directly to voicemail. So while it's a near match for the Telus stock look & feel, it falls short there. I tested it big-time to prove that out after reverting back to my first choice, the RLMCS ROM. Some of the Vista-esque enhancements are ugly in my opinion, but from a stability perspective I have to say it's 100%. Seriously...no more SD corruption, no more lockups in sleep mode, the GPS can be active and incoming calls still come through. Of course, if I'm streaming video or something then it goes to voicemail often...but that's just a limitation of simultaneous voice and data.
