Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

Tobeychris - did you do anything different when you booted up? I did the *22803 and programming was succesful, then an instant soft reset. But GPS refuses to lock on.

I tried booting an older custom ROM that used to work, and it think's I'm in either Kazakastan or a a couple of hundred km's off the Western Coast of Africa... I think I'd rather have the GPS say "I don't know" than just making stuff up

I use TomTom 7 and use the Internal GPS setting with AstroLauncher to prime it.

For TomTom 6 you use Other NMEA device and select COM4, that should be it. (with a gps primer of course)
I tried this with Garmin XT and unfortunately it didn't work. The weird thing is that simply changing the baud rate in windows settings appeared to prime the gps fine last night. Maybe it only likes certain satellites. LOL!

I downloaded and Installed Telus Navigator, maybe it injected some dlls... ones we don't have in the sprint roms.

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I tried installing navigator too, but I didn't actually sign up for the stupid 30 day trial. I don't need 1 more thing going wrong on my bill.

Did you just install it?

In your opinion, is the official release any better than the custom roms? All I noticed is the mini-menu popup when you tap the signal/battery/EVDO section of the screen. (everything else seems it can be installed seperately)

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

That's actually an HTC program that can be installed seperately too. And no, it's not better than any of the custom roms, but it's soon to be an official and non-warranty-voiding update. If we can figure out how to use it to the best of its abilities, it's better for everyone

I just installed Telus Navigator in the hopes that this was the case and neither Garmin XT nor Google Maps can get a lock on any satellites (obviously when I am outdoors <g>).

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

Hey All,

I tossed this on and re programmed my phone and things are working well. My GPS works perfect and I don't need any priming for Tom Tom 6 to work (it's set up with the Other NMEA GPS Receiver selected, COM 4, Baud 4800). I didn't have to touch anything on the GPS settings on the phone.

Google and Windows Live lock on quick as well.

Just a heads up to hard reset after you flash the first time, that may help.

Now if I could just find a .cab for Internet Sharing I'd be laughing (yes I've searched but try searching .cab Internet Sharing and see how many hits you get!)

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I tried a hard reset, no gps, installed telus nav, no gps, ran telus nav, it gets a lock, but TomTom won't lock again... this is messed up.

I have an uncomfortable feeling that Telus has tried to prevent reliable use of other GPS software than their own $10/month subscription (that you automatically get enrolled for and have to contact them to un-enroll after the free time period).

... either that or I am just being paranoid.

I am sure someone will work this out if it isn't an actual bug in the rom.

Re: Official Telus HTC Touch Update Released

I just found something interesting, when I open My Computer while Active Sync is on, then click "Mobile Device" then the phone icon again "My Windows Based-mobile Device" in that directory is a file called PPST58. It's a text file, like a log from the PPST which shows my SPC...this may be an easier way to find it for those of you looking if you run the new ROM.
