I dont know when the PRI changed after the Customization or running the ROM to be honest.

Strange thing - the GPS was steller all day, fast locks - 6+ sats........came back home from watching the Indiana Jones movie and the GPS stopped working. The phone was MUTED while I was in the theater. I was playing with Google Maps on the way there. The only thing I was doing from that point is playing music over bluetooth to my car stereo on the way home. I tried GPS Today and NADA after 5min.

Back to the drawing board At least I have the latest PRI.

There is something that disables the GPS either by going into standby or something else timing out. Or a application running. Or just plain ole Bad Karma

run both the cab and exe again and let it soft reset when it asks

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

Just for grins, I timed getting a lock while sitting here watching TV.

13 seconds, and I was locked on to 9 satellites. While indoors. Whatever PPST.exe and GPSMODE=4 do, it works, phenomenally.

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

Alltel user here and having problems. I realize the ppst file fixes it for Sprint users but there seems to be a version for Alltel uses as well. However, whenever I run ppst it wacks my data connection - presumably screwing with my radio. I thought we had an Alltel version out and it worked?

sorry but deciphering this sprint/alltel stuff is hard without our own forums

Hmmm ... folks have retrieved the [Altell] cab and run the included ppst.exe with good results, or at least I am under that impression.

Can you follow-up with a little more detail regarding what happened vs. what you expected to happnen?

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I have a big suspicion that the problem may be my rom. I use the stock Alltel rom because as far a i know the sprint leaked is for - sprint. isn't it? and jd's is too.

what is happening is i run ppst and my data connection drops and i cant make any calls. the radio isn't funtional until a reset. the pst and other versions don't change or anything, it just goes dead. thanks for your quick reply and help

Interesting ... I am a Sprint subscriber, so I run the Sprint cab and resulting PPST.exe file.

When I run PPST.exe, I get a prompt ... essentially - Do you want to perform the update. The update then performs. At the end of the update process, I get a additional prompt ... essentiall - the phone is going to reset right now.

So, if I understand you correctly, you don't appear to get that second prompt. I presume this is ok, because the PPST.exe update is stored to your radio and it will (or at the very least - should) persist through a soft-reset. I make this assertion, because the Sprint version ends the update process by requiring a soft-reset.

... out of left field, if you think you also need to update your carrier support, VetVito (produces a generic Touch ROM) and provided a url in his message to carrier cabs by DCD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391696

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I have discovered more about this since messing with it some. running PPST resets the SID in the phone. I have been having this problem since the update and didn't know why until I started running PPST by itself. My SID gets changed to a 1 (default I'm assuming) instead of 120 which it should be. This program also runs during the alltel customization following a hard reset. It also runs another program just before the customization finished and reboots. I just did a hard reset to discover this but didn't notice the name of the last app.

When solo running PPST my SID is reset without a reboot and screws my radio up. Once I reset, it comes up with the SID=1 and I'm stuck on roaming everywhere. I have to think that PPST isn't going to do anything for Alltel phones in its current form.

Edit: I'm going bite the bullet and load OMJ's alltel rom. Thank God someone is making roms for us other carrier folks.
Update. OMJ is pretty nice. PPST runs as you described but still ends up reseting my SID to 1. i fixed it of course and good news, once I remembered to enable locations under the phone I get a lock very quickly - even indoors. down side, i can't get touchpal working. but that's just another development!

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

Alrighty, so I am not good a listening to the warnings. My carrier is Telus, and i updated my PRI to sprints. Everything works awesome, GPS locks onto 8 satellites instead of 4, in 30s instead of 10 minutes.

My problem..... Now everytime I try to connect to the net, there is a symbol that says IOTA that pops up, and says its trying to provision the sprint data services. My internet works while it is trying this, but it errors out 2 minutes later and closes my connection. How can i premanently turn this off, or atleast get back to the Telus PRI. Should i try the alltel one? Thanks in advance, and good find

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

Alrighty, so it is safe for Telus users to update to the Sprint PRI. Just be prepared for some legwork.
1) Download, install and run the sprint ppst
2)Obtain your MSL
3)##786# and click menu>reset. Enter your MSL
4)*22803>option 2
5)*22803>option 1
6)flash your desired rom

Without doing 2>5, you will get damn annoying IOTA errors, but everything still works. Good Luck
