Yes you can still install them through a windows file explorer like you do now, or with user customization.

This tutorial is about adding files before you flash your new rom.

Re: How to Customize a Custom Rom: Adding/Removing Programs

rstoyguy:

Did you ever figure out why we are not able to "edit" this ROM to our suiting? I've followed directions exactly but when I go to re-flash, I am stuck at the PPCKitchen screen and must reflash back to OMJ's original ROM. Thanks for your help in all this.

Re: How to Customize a Custom Rom: Adding/Removing Programs

I haven't really had a chance to look at it...I am reading what I can about the rom itself so when I get time on maybee sunday???? I will crank out a solution to the problem. Gotta be something with memory locations....The problem arose when:

1. I thought it was safe to release this...
2. The new altell rom+radio hit which screwed up my methods.

Or if someone else knows why dogguy's kitchen can't handle the new rom's...feel free to share!

Re: How to Customize a Custom Rom: Adding/Removing Programs

I'm a n00b at this and am just getting the hang of flashing. I just loaded Ghetto's ROM and will try your methods on it. Will let you know what happens. As far as trouble shooting goes. I can try out your suggestions but am not capable of coming up with solutions on my own at this point.

Re: How to Customize a Custom Rom: Adding/Removing Programs

It seems that if you use this method with any ROMs based on the new SPRINT ROM you will get stuck on the boot screen.

I've tried without changing anything in the ROM (just prepit, buildos, and builtit) then flashed and got stuck.

Anyone else having the same issue?

Re: How to Customize a Custom Rom: Adding/Removing Programs

ha ha ha lol the roms made with the ppcgeeks kitchen or any other kitchen other the the dogguy kitchen .... when you try to decompile them they will be missing the rgu files therefore creating "rom" bricks ........... the answer to this is to download the free ppcgeeks kitchen and ...... MAKE YOUR OWN ROM !!!!!!!!!!

This is why I prefer my method. So what you are saying is that once you use the kitchen, you can't change to any other rom? That is exactly why I don't use it. While I respect the ppckitchen, I prefer my own method.

Anyways folks, what I did was made a bare-bones rom from the ppckitchen, flashed it, then I was able to edit a BOOTABLE custom rom again. Here is the new base rom from old_man_jenkins that I used with the methods in the first & second posts and it worked fine.

OMJ.WM6.1.GPS.Sprint.NEW.Custom.exe

...and rgu/dsm files are in tact...

*sigh* no, that's not at all what he said and totally untrue. You really need a better understanding of what the tools are, what they do, and what they need to work. What he said is dogguy's tools aren't designed to work with the rom you are trying to turn into a kitchen.

Now what are you talking about? "...and then was able to edit a BOOTABLE custom rom"? I seriously doubt that flashing a kitchen rom to your ppc had anything to do with your ability to edit something! Did you mean "...and then was able to flash my custom rom and it would boot"? BTW, this sounds like an excellent example of why NOT to use the tools you are using.

Honestly, there are a lot of reasons to use buildos v2 and not ppckitchen's buildos, but they don't seem to apply to you. You'd be better served using ppckitchen's kitchens and tools instead of beating your head against the wall.

You might want to post in the ppckitchen forum, they can better assist you with your question.
