Re: OMJ's WM6.1 Custom Touch ROM w/ UC, GPS, REV A! Updated 5/29/08

I am so beyond frustrated and would appreciate any help. I have been trying to get GPS working on my Alltel Touch for a couple weeks and now and I am having little luck. I started with the stock Alltel ROM with radio 3.37.10 and a "Enable GPS" package that I had found on another thread. The first time I did this I was able to get a GPS lock on my way home from work and it worked incredibly well. That night I decided to cycle the phone on and off to see how quickly it would reacquire the signal and I have never gotten it to work since then. I have tried OMJs rom with 3.37.15 radio, and 3.37.10 radio and get the same result. GPS viewer does appear to find GPS on scan, but when I look at the status, satellites appear and disappear and I never get a lock. I have re-flashed several times and the results are always the same. I am even more frustrated because I saw it working on my phone and now I can't get it back. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. In my reading I have heard several people refer to radio 3.35.04 but haven't found anyplace to download it for the Vogue as it appears the author removed it after people had problem. Thanks again for any help.

Also, I am having the same issue as Cbus with the contacts popping up. It is not when I have invoked the contacts. For example I will be on the home screen and open text messages. When I close text, the contacts are open behind it even though I never accessed them.

Btw, great rom. Installed it few days back. It does not have Opera Mini but has skyfire?
oh yeah...RB6 baby! every morning!

skyfire is pretty nice but you need an invite.

no....1st follow the steps to flash the leaked rom to upgrade your radio. the custom roms have to be extraced on a pc, then run the romupdateutility from the pc.

I ran the unlocker, and then I installed the Alltel ROM. I didn't stop the customization because I didn't know how so I just let it run.

That's all that I have done, but it's not fully correct. GPS doesn't work, I've tried google maps. If I want to do this over again and do it right & thoroughly, what do I need to do?

Thanks.
you need to flash the leaked sprint rom 1st to upgrade your radio....so skip customizations, just softreset when u see the 3 secs msg.

the instructions on post #1 are about as detailed as your gonna get lol.

Well I then flashed NexVisions rom(it is really nice as well, I love the splash screens/slide to unlock/ultimate launcher) but no GPS what so ever, just errors.

I would like to load OMJ's rom again can anyone direct a Bell user as to what rom to load(latest greatest working on Bell rom)

3.17.15 radio
2.03_003 pri

have u tried my bell version on post #1? the v2 & v3's were sprint versions.

3.35 is for the titan/mogul, it's not really meant for the vogue......how long did you let gpsviewer run? the initial lock will take awhile. someone about 15-20 posts back had some good tips that included changing the com port to 2.

Re: OMJ's WM6.1 Custom Touch ROM w/ UC, GPS, REV A! Updated 5/29/08

From stock, I updated to Bell 1.19.666.1, unlocked, installed sprint custom GPS, and I've been running OMJ Bell GPS-custom w/ 3.37.15 radio for a little over a week, with many thanks to OMJ for that! My GPS has been working reliably, taking approx. 1-3 minutes for a fix priming with GPS-viewer since I couldn't get any other programs to initialize the GPS. I do NOT have a-GPS (cell triangulation) enabled, as I didn't want as much variation in accuracy as I've heard that provides. I tried another app about 3 days ago called GPS tuner (with a 3 week free trial) and I'm getting a lock of at least 3 sats in less than 10 seconds, even when sitting in my basement! Out in the open I've got up to 8 sats active in less than 30 seconds, showing an accuracy of approx +- 1.5 meters. I've tried it after the phone was on all day, and immediately following a hard boot with the battery removed. I don't know what the difference is in the software but my best guess is that the GPS tuner program retains the almanac file instead of downloading it each time, making the time to fix much shorter than before. The only reports I remember reading of this kind of time frame and consistency are from Sprint customers who have run customization.
Has anyone else not on Sprint (or who has not run the sprint customization) tried this program, or had similar success using different software?
As a side note: With GPS-tuner running constantly, i get about 3 1/2 hours on the standard HTC battery. When I have Tom Tom running, it will last ...maybe 1 1/2 hours tops. This definitely is not for walking around all day, but it's great for driving with a charger
I hope I'm not taking the thread too far off topic. I know I've seen plenty of posts about how do I.... what did you... I can't... etc. on the GPS topic here.

That's the next update I will do. The full version is appealing because it is a real timesaver and was ready to GPS right from the get go.

Thanks OMJ, appreciate the hard work both in developing the rom as well as all the support.
Cheers

Did you do this? "Flash the leaked rom .exe to upgrade your radio to 3.37.15 (skip post-flash Customization if you're non-Sprint)(If you are a Sprint user, let the Customization run, then once phone has booted, run \Windows\PPST.exe to upgrade your PRI)" If you did try running PPST again I'm using OMJ's Rom with SPRINT Touch getting GPS Lock in seconds outdoors indoors, depending on location 30 seconds to never

I can live with it but if anyone knows of a fix I would appreciate it.
I was playing this morning and I was able to duplicate this as well.
Here is what I did:
If you have showtitlebarclock=0, and open contacts, then close it via the 'x' button, (it is still listed as open in quickmenu), then when you close an application, contacts will open up again. If you don't have contacts open in the background, all is good.

Unfortunately, the only fix still is showtitlebarclock=2 to avoid the dialer/contacts pop-ups.
